So I've seen the sign on the side of the highway for a while now for the local 4x4 shop...figured I'd swing in, see what they had...turns out, it's a one-man operation, which I respect, but the dude is installing somenew gears in the back of this Silverado when I walk in through the door and half-heartedly asks what I want...tell him I just wanted to see what they had around the place...thinking incorrectly that I'd found a local, redneck 4 Wheel Parts or something...but oh no. He asks what I want again, and I told him I'm considering either a sort of long travel lift retaining IFS or just swap in a Dana 44...He goes, "Have you talked to people about me?" ...hmm, no, didn't know you're a big deal...."Well, I won't talk to you, because you won't spend any money in my shop, and time is money 'cause I'm the only one working here"...right then, my unemployed mind started working and was like hey, ask this dude if he needs help in his shop....but then my better judgement kicked in and slapped me....I can't start talking to the dude for 2 minutes, much less working for his ***...so, I asked him about how much he thought a SAS on a unibody would be and with no hesitation "10 grand".....10k??? I got quoted at a shop in Cali at 6! And he had awesome plans, including a powder-coated tubular frame to wrap everything together, with axles & gears included...Then he tosses in his final comment of "If you had brought a deposit, I would sit down and talk to you, but......." Right then I was like screw this dude and walked out...how the eff can you expect to pull any business when you tell someone as soon as they walk through the door that he won't pay you any attention 'cause I'm just there to shoot the ****?? Friggin A-hole, man. I've run into alot of people like that out here, though...it's like everyone is pissed about everything and they hate everyone. Man screw this eastern NC ****....I'm moving to Montana or some **** when my wife gets out....leave people behind and do my own thing...People are the worst thing about the human race. Just thought I'd share my frustrations with you guys....

Ha ha! Small town mentality. "I don't know you, I'm busy, and unless you're going to bring business, GTFO."

unfortunately i know where he's coming from, im the same way with my job, im so freakin busy all the time that i dont even like to answer questions anymore if the people dont have their money ready, cause time really is money

however the difference is that i dont really enjoy my line of work, that guy should enjoy offroading and thats totally different, you guys see me on NICO all day long and i dont trip on answering questions, however if you call me at my place of work (where im sitting right now) and try to ask questions and you are not my customer yet, im gonna have to say "money talks, bull**** walks" (not in those exact words hahah) if you dont like it then call my competition and THEN you'll see what happens!!!

i get a lot of customers that try to guess wayyy too much over the phones and it gets annoying after a few years of dealing with that everyday anyways i see where hes coming from but hes a douche for bringing that attitude to the 4x4 world, this is a fun hobby and a fun lifestyle!!!

Uh oh, you're starting to sound like me (moving to MT or ND or such). If you're willing to pay a couple grand you ought to get a hold of Tyler Morgan & see if you can pay for him to fly out & work on your rig (of course on your dime). I know he needs college money & money to finish his R50 & since he's the only one to successfully SAS an R50 its worth a shot...

You hearin this Tyler?...

Anyways, I'm definately calling Adam at work now just to ask stupid questions (you do work on like fridges or HVAC's or something right?) !

And Ive actually been to a mechanic that was close to the same, wouldnt talk to me at all without an appointment and putting money down for his time, but this was at a busy shop.

I can see where he was coming form if alotta people had problems, got his advice, and then left, but i actually wanted to get something fixed there

I completely understand people just wasting your time (remember, I served 4 years in the navy....I learned a whole lot about having your time wasted)...but I went in there with a legitimate question regarding if he would be able and even willing to tackle something like that...even if not, if I could get supplies from him (steel, if he had a connection for the new axles I'll need, etc...). But since he wanted to be a d!ck, screw him...I'm all about helping out the small shops in the area, but..when you just out and out tell a potential customer to eff off....man screw that noise, I don't need someone's "I'm too busy for you" attitude. Not when they are supposed to be the guy you go to and give your money to...I dunno...maybe I just have a real short tolerance for other people's crap anymore.
