and it seems like my car is hurting bad on cylinder 1 i got 115 on 2 i got 100 3 85 and 4 75. so now i was looking at the rebuild kit on ebay. I was going to do a swap but my money needs to be used else where. Is that rebuild kit thats all over ebay really any good? like would it hold me over if im not going for performance just yet? If not do you guys have any suggestions for a fairly cheap rebuild kit thats credible?

How does it run like that? If you wouldn't have done a compression test, would you have noticed it? No big deal, just wondering... I would also rebuild/upgrade my badass little engine if the compression turned out to be that low (given if I actualy had some money). I have heard people on here saying that 155 is okay across the board for a used engine with no more than 15% difference between any 2 cylinders, but yours is a little low.

yes I have noticed it quite a bit. I knew it had no power but we were trying to see if it was on the lower internals or not so now its just worse. it gets me to and from but i dont know how much longer it will last being like this and i just want to get it fixed

Well, I must recommend nothing less than the best of everything here, and that's just me (ironically I'm broke but an engine is no place to cut corners). You can always get things done for a decent price or better if you play your cards right. But if you must keep going on it for a while, you can try some Restore added to the oil and see what that does for you. Personally, I have faith in the SOHC KA24, and would love to hop one up someday. IDK how much longer you got to go exactly. Eventualy the engine will lose so much compression that it just won't be able to idle anymore. You might even be able to find a good used engine to drop in. There is lots of info here, so check the archives.

yeah I know and I'm so new to this. I mean I have 4 years of mechanical knowledge but its all on diesel engines on a 224ft ship. so alot of this is new to me other then the basic concept of things. on the ship it was if its broke fix it and I could. everything was so much bigger and easier. like as far as the car goes I dont even know how to turn the crank over without trying to start it. On the diesel it had a jacking gear. I have been trying to get up to pace but there is just soo much on here its hard to retain it all.

Sounds like you are in the Navy guy. or Military period, you should have a on base auto-shop available to you. They will have the lifts, tools and knowledge to help you out. Talk to some of the EN's on your boat and see if they will lend a hand. Only deal with the on base shop is you have to roll it outside at the end of every day. You should be more then able to tackle this with your basic knowledge(you had the mind to test it, more then i can say for a lot of others), NICO, and the on base shop. Like everyone else has said, take your time and make sure your ready to go when you do rebuild. It will be like night and day, trust me
