So I'm cruising down the road, and have had a Sheriff behind me for about a mile. I have obeyed every traffic law, and have no reason whatsoever to be pulled over. Next thing I see, is the lights of his Christmas tree...

I pull over, and roll down the window. He gets out, and with his hand on his gun, he states Driver, Turn off the vehicle and exit the vehicle. Keep your hands where I can see them".

Now I've seen enough episodes of "Cops" to know now is not the time to ask questions or get smart with him. I shut off the car and get out. He asks me to stand at his front bumper. He then asks where the registration is at. I tell him it's in the upper glove-box. He goes and gets it, and walks back toward me. I ask him what the problem is, and he states: "I have reason to believe that this vehicle is stolen".

My freaking jaw drops. I think all I said was "WHAT??? I have owned this car for over a year, and been pulled over before, with no problems."

He then says that the registration and the plate do not match the vehicle. The registered vehicle is an Infiniti G35, and this is a Nissan.

I busted up laughing.

I told him to match the VIN numbers, on the dash, and the one under the hood on the inside fender/strut tower.

He did, and said "There's still something fishy about this."

I then explained that in the US, Canada, Korea, Germany and Saudi Arabia, it's an Infiniti, and all over the rest of the world it's a Nissan.

He walked over to his car climbed in and got on the radio. A minute later he got out, and was beat red and laughing.

I was laughing also, and he apologised a few times and told me to have a great day.

That was the best time I've ever had being pulled over.

He ran my plate.

They are allowed to do that in WA state. Tacoma (per capita) is the stolen car capital of the world.

Yikes - that's worrysome, guess there is some friendly fire occasionally.

I do like the idea with the immobilizer chips in the keys, makes me feel better that as long as I can hold onto my keys I should be ok.

Beano:

You might think it was funny, but I am so glad you are okay. This situation could have turned ugly with a single wrong move. I am glad it ended with a good laugh.

I can't beleive these guys would stop innocent people for the flimsiest reasons.

Jacko, I have a shaved head and a sleeved (tattooed) arm hanging out the window. Heck, had I been the cop, I would have probably been suspicious of me as well.

LOL. I keep waiting for that to happen to me. We have some back woods redneck cops here.

I have had several people aske me at stop lights, I my car was some kind of new Nissan. Then having to explain to them that it is a Infitit G35 rebadged.

Then they are like "Oh OK. Nice car" and drive off more confused then when the conversation started.

Plus I have a flashing 3rd brake light. (it changes patters every 5 sec.) So that gets some attention. But so far I have not had a cop even bat an eye lid at it. Even when they are behind me.

LMAO

At least he realized how stupid that looked. When he got off the radio.

Nice one. So far I think this is the funniest cop story I heard.

Thanks Beano

See the only difference if that was to happen to me is that they would have a computer error and i would be in the back of the cop car doing 10 to life!

Now, I understand. I actually thought cops knew more about cars then one is led to beleive. They may not even be aware that Lexus is Toyota.

Ooo man, at least the cop was cool about it. The fact that he admitted the mistake was clearly a sign that all cops are not d-bags.

I still would have been scared s**tless though...

I was in Philly on sunday night going to a Puerto Rican club with a bunch of friends. On the way home we saw a Smart Fortwo pulled over. I found that to be funny. Since I don't have any pics I didn't want to make a new post.

Man. I really wish we had a camera. There was so much **** we want to take pictures of.
