So I get home from work w/ my new rebuilt starter and I install it before it gets dark. AHH the moment of joy......NOT, I only get one click when I turn the key.....hmmm what could it be? I checked the fuses and I installed it correctly I hope. Any suggestions?

Check your battery. Sounds like it's dead/low.

So I finally got it started. I went to the ignition place adn the guy there showed me how to test the starter. I basically used a screwdriver and jump started it. I got it to spin while my girl turned the key. At first there was nothing, then my girl told me that it sounded like the engine kind of wanted to start. So I tried to jump it like 3 more times and finally it started. I shut it off and it started again. I took the car for a ride, came home and shut the car off and started it again just to be sure. I think maybe the starter needed that jump to kind of get thing going. Thanks everyone for your help.

*Edit*

Well that was short lived. I got in my car this morning started it up, went to pep boys for some stuff then I get in the car and it doesn't start. After like 20 tries of nothing, magically it started right up. I'm taking the car to a shop that knows more this than I do. I just want to enjoy my car damn it.

My car has a similar problem, get in, and get the 1 click. I found that if I keep working the key back and forth 10 or so times, It'll start. I feel that this is my ignition switch going bad and not making good connection. Mine has never failed to start if I just keep working the key.

By chance do you guys have the factory alarm?

I know you can reset alarms by turning the key a set number of times. Perhaps this is something worth looking into.

I know my car has some kind of alarm but I don't know what it is, this might be my problem because it sometimes starts and sometimes nothing out of thin air.. Where would the brain of the alarm be?

My car has seemingly had a failing starter switch since I bought it. At first I would just have to twist the key twice, then it progressed to the point I could wiggle it in the start position to make it crank. Now I have to sort of wiggle the key as I turn it toward start. I use a sort of swirling motion. A push button start will be the solution ultimately.
