I congratulated him, because usually thay will take it for a spin, but not down the freeway at mach 4. At least he has balls. Not sure if he still has a job, but balls, yes.
It did piss me off a little bit, but it wasn't that big of a deal.
a depreciating chunk of metal......I know that I've heard you say this numerous times. You are keeping it 'real'. Keeping us focused on what's really important like saving for retirement & such. To alot of folks the car is more than a mode of transportation from point a to point b. It is an expression of who they are. An extention of who they are. Their pride & joy. Their hobby. Some take great care in their cars. Washing & waxing. Showing them off. Personalizing them. Posting on forums.I do understand what you are saying, but to some their cars are much more than a depreciating chunk of metal. I don't spend the time cleaning my cars like I did before 'married with children', but I do remember back when I got my first car. My 69 Mach 1.....I still have dreams about that car!!! 'a depreciating chunk of metal', well actually it's probably a big pile of rust by now.telcoman wrote:

Well let me add my $.02.
So if I understand this correctly, you had an oil change and the tech took your vehicle out for a 14 mile test drive.Aside from burning your gas, I would have at least asked the tech how was the performance of your vehicle compared to others. Supose they did uncover a problem such perhaps a dirty air filter or something with the MAF sensor or something else you may have been unaware of. Wouldn't you have wanted to know about it?Even if the tech took the vehicle up to 80 MPG & the RPM's uo to 5k, SO WHAT!How else to check out the vehicle? The techs that work on them may not be able to afford one but they probably can tell you if something is wrong?
If I am about to purchase a new vehicle, I would like to test drive the vehicle up to about 80MPH to see how it handles. I can't see how the tech did anything wrong other than using some of your gas. He should have told you he was going to test drive it and perhaps asked you to go along for the ride.
Keep in mind that as great as the G35 is, it is still a depreciating chunk of metal. Lets not get too crazy over something that most of us will be getting rid of in a few years.

NICE!!! Didn't think about that!zozoka1212 wrote:I would do the same with smile on my face. Investigate who did it and ask his car key plus the lead tech's. "Eye for eye."
I would tell them you drove a piss out of my car now it is my turn. I'll drive your car for 14 miles. Plus the lead tech's car also because their is no way he did not know about it. Once I came back with the car if there is a possibility I would even do some donuts.
Hand the key back and ask SOOO how you feel now?

Agreed! We should all think a little more before spending!!telcoman wrote:"I don't spend the time cleaning my cars like I did before 'married with children', but I do remember back when I got my first car. My 69 Mach 1.....I still have dreams about that car!!! "
Well that is precisely the point I was trying to make.
Most younger males, myself included are focused on cars, woman, and booze sometimes not exactly in that order. Getting married, kids, a house, paying bills, perhaps trying to save for one or more college educations as well as retirement changes ones outlook on a car being an extension of who they are. As I've aged I enjoy driving a performance vehicle such as the G35 but I think the factory engineers did a pretty good job compared to what else is out in the market place. The $$$$ that some are spending may give them some personal satisfaction but IMHO that $$$ could give them more bang for the buck elsewhere. Again, just my opinion from an old farht. I figure if I can save one of the younger members from pissing away their hard earned cash on trying to get an additional 10hp which is really not needed then I feel good. To those that don't understand, you eventually will as you get older.
