You'll need a head gasket kit and it is always recommended to have the head pressure tested and surfaced.

If you don't have one yet, invest in a Factory Service Manual.

He said it. Pick yourself up a service manual and follow it. I done my first headgasket replacement following the book, went well.

Make sure to take your head to a shop to have it checked.

OEM studs are fine.

Just make sure to NOT reuse the ones that are currently in there.

head gaskets arent to bad...there is really only a few things to remember..follow the bolt patterns to the letter...torque the head gasket down..then un torque..re torque again to set the gasket...before you replace the gasket..scrape the surface clean with a razor blade removing the old gasket material...this is for s cheep fix..but if your going performance..id sugest a whole mess of other things that some nicco heads have all ready expressed here...good luck.

take a lot of pictures, before and during. Get the manual like everyone else says and a torque wrench. if your not going performance buy the oem head gasket set and head bolts, follow the pattern, i believe its 4 steps. tighten once in order again to like 60ft pounds, loosen completely in reverse and do again. Make sure that the block isn't cracked anywhere find a good staight edge and a set of gauges to see if its square/warped and have the head checked as well. good luck

one word of advice thou..if ya blew the gasket and had water penetrate the oil system..then i would sugest blowing out the inside of your cams/oil gallys or where ever oil travels throu the head....had a buddy rebuild after a headgasket failure only to have his cams full of gunk and fail dispencing oil..you can imagine the rest...good luck
