so i decided to try out the NGK BCPR6EI-11 iridiums(NGK4919) instead of the BCPR6ES-11 sparkplugs just to experiment. and it was a bad idea... at WOT motor falls on face around 3800 then again at 5k. runs fine off boost though but as soon as you get on it. no weird noise besides flame throw popping (assumed to be from non ignited fuel)

wanted to see how they were cause GAWDZILLA uses the iridiums with no issue.

I gapped them at .7

but i guess ill go back to the basics and get the bcpr6es-11's (NGK6779).

the motor had non gapped autolites before i changed over. and related or not hits a semi wall at 5k-ish

haha funny i am mentioned in here. i am a fan of basic coppers, but my car stopped having luck with them. havent skipped a beat with the iridiums... just one of those things you can't really explain. grass is greener on the other side

weird rb's.... but yeah gapped and installed coppers in less than 30mins. thats good for me lol.

want to buy iridiums with less than 10miles on them?

What are the part numbers for the RB25 coppers? They don't even list them here in JP.

This is really weird because I have been having all hell trying to figure out this ****ty running with my car, sometimes it would run like a bat outta hell and then some times every time i get to 12lbs of boost it just backfires. I originally had the plugs gapped to .9mm and then brought them down to a .75mm which helped but its still not right. I am using the iridiums, when I asked people what plugs to use they said to use the iridiums. But apparently this is not the case? Is any one running iridiums on a basically stock RB25 and not having this problem? I'm gonna have to go pick up some of the coppers and see if this is true. I always figured the Iridiums were better, as that what I use in my other motors.

What I used.

yeah the iridiums were a downgrade on power for me.

but now even with copers(gapped at .7mm) it doesnt seem to have as much power as the autolites that came in the motor when i got it running and those were gapped at 1.1mm.

this is anoying me. im pretty sure my 5K issue should be R&R but, now with the ngk copper plugs @ .7mm the motor does no have a smooth idle and does not make power as smooth as it used to.

i still need to check for boost leaks in a more advanced way, but im almost sure it done have one.

unless you are POSITIVE that you have a full 12-14v running to your coils you may not want to run iridiums.iridium plugs are harder to spark due to their conductive nature (they dont conduct well) which is why they last longer.copper plugs with regular change intervals are best for turbo motors, especialy with higher charge pressures.

thanks carl, can you think of any reason why when i went from non gapped autolites to gapped copper plugs that my power would cut intermittently, or feel boggy at times?

So still wondering, part numbers for the copper autolites or NGK's?

bcpr6es-11 NGK part number was 6779 for me at autozone and orielys.

rb seems to be running nicely now. guess the plugs needed to break in(as weird as it is sounds)

I have used iridiums (bcpr7eix-11) on many RB and SR motors and never had an issue with them.

i used iridium 8's in my honda and on 30psi with stock ignition besides the coil it doesnt miss a beat... kinda strange that a coil pack car has problems with them... stock coils must not be any good

Ive used bcpr6es coppers, bkr6es coppers, bkr6eix iridiums, and bkr7eix iridiums with all the same results. Mines just a BPU rb25 and it has a hesitation over anything above 8-9psi. Car doesnt through any codes though. I dont know for sure but im thinking the stock ecu i have has a fuel cut limiting at a certain maf voltage. Not to thread jack but does anyone know if there is a fuel cut on the stock ecu? its a rb25 S1.

my current setup runs coppers again. i change them basically every oil change. iridiums are too expensive and they seem to foul just as fast as coppers do.

geez changing plugs every oil change? That seems a bit overkill....

Not for coppers. There cheap and really dont last long at all. I change mine after each oil change too. If not, around 5k miles and they start to blow out under boost.

i probably have 1 3-4 hr dyno tuning session, 4 track days and 1500 street miles on my current set, and they're done. can't boost more than 19 psi or ign cuts out.

i buy mine on summitracing usually in decent quantities. whatever multiple of 6 since the boxes come with 4 . they're cheap, like $1 a piece and it forces me to inspect the plugs for health every now and then.

Also to comment on iridiums. I used them in my SR20. BKR8EIX with stock coils and 24psi from a Garret T04Z turbo, had zero blow out issues and would last a solid year of racing/street driving before having to replace them. I dont see why the RB would be any different. Its got a similar Ignitor and Coilpack design as the SR has, so not firing the plug shouldnt be a big issue.

Im running the 3330. I wanna say that they are from a older Saab turbo or something. The great thing about them is that they are already gapped 0.7 which is great for boost pressure around 12psi unlike what comes stock on the rb(1.1 hotter plugs)
