My AMD athlon 3800 2.0 Ghz dual core is too slow. I've decided to do a budget rebuild. For about $400, I will be getting;

Intel E2160 1.8 Ghz (will be OC'ing to 3.0 Ghz. Might take it to 3.5 after I feel comfortable with adjusting power)ASUS P5N-E-SLIMax Orb CPU coolerRaidmax Smilodon case4 gigs OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 800mhz memoryand re-using my HD, Disc drives, video card, sound card, and memory card readers.

I know that to most it sounds stupid, but I would rather spend a few bucks more, and support a local family owned business, than buy from newegg, or zipzoomfly. I can save a few bucks, but then if there is a problem, I have to send it back and wait, then wait for it to be sent back to me. Locally, they are right here, and always willing to help.

I searched for a long time, and can't beat the price online by more than $20.

Built, up and running. This is what I have been looking for. It has a fast enough processor to convert video, and surf the net at the same time.

Had to order the "clamshell" style fan, since the Max Orb wouldn't fit. It hit the power supply.

Also went with an ASUS P5K-SE, so it would be compatible with the 45nm quad cores.

I did end up overclocking the 1.87 to 3.02 Ghz. latency is 5-5-5-15, for now, but after the CPU fan arrives, it's time to up V-core and run it up to 3.4 or 3.5 Ghz, set timing to 4-4-4-15 and unstrarp the northbridge...

I was doing a budget rebuild, and water cooling is too expensive. Just as well, you have to change the water too often, which I wouldn't do, and I would have to use distilled or suffer from problems with my overly high PHtap water. Too much maintenance.
