And Ocarina 3D.

The Ocarina update is fantastically done. The UI is 100% overhauled, unlike the gamecube ports. It makes use of all face buttons and the touch screen in a pretty well-designed manner. The game also makes clever but simple use of the console's motion-sensing capabilities. When using first-person or strafe/lockon, you can move the 3DS to shift the view. The sensitivity is well-tuned for both modes, and it feels very natural.

The rest of the game looks better, too. It's not just the higher-resolution textures I'd been expecting. Geometry of the world and characters has improved drastically, too. It controls great.

As to the console itself...it does everything the DSi did well, and then some. The D-pad is the DSi's good clicky one. So are the face buttons. The screens look nicer than ever. The analog pad is far nicer feeling than the PSP's nub.

Anyway, I'll post up more as I use the thing and have more thoughts.

Mainly for the Nintendo first-party stuff. What really attracted me to the 3DS is the slew of planned remakes and back-catalog downloadable games that are planned. Zelda, Kirby, Mario, etc. There's already a pretty decent Game Boy selection available from the eShop. All of that is stuff I had hoped for on my DSi but that never made it.

The fact that there's support for a full system transfer from DSi to 3DS made the decision easier. I got to keep my downloaded titles, saves (most of which are cartridge-based anyway), settings, data, everything. And I've already got a bunch of people offering me money for my DSi. So in the end I'll probably have spent only $100 for the 3DS.

Starfox is out. I'm not a fan of the series or I probably would have picked it up, too.
