Hey guys, I just bought a 95 240 a month ago and I don't know if she's got an LSD or not. I didn't want to do it the hard way, so I'm asking :pface. I read that there's a way to find out by the model #, but I don't know what numbers or letters to look at. Mine was manufactured 8/94.

There should be a little yellow sticker on your differential if you have it. Just crawl under the rear of your car and LOOK.

Or you could peel out and count the lines...

Yep, jack it up from the rear and spin the tires. If both tires spin together, you have LSD. Also, take a gander at the diff housing and look for an orange sticker with the letters "LSD" on it.

Nobody here is going to spoon feed you kid. Do some research. You have the entire world at your finger tips.

sorry if I kinda vented on you in the other thread shaddix, I thought you were full of **** and posted bs to get a rise out of us, I try to help people out 'cuz there's usually too much bs on some of these forums even though I don't know much myself...

anyways, basically an lsd controlls the amount of power going to the wheels in a way. normally, power is sent to both wheels to start, but if one loses traction, the car is like ok, this wheel's really goin' off, let's give it more power. in reality, that wheel has no traction, which is why it's spinning, so it's pointless to send more power to it that is can't use, instead of sending it to the tire with grip. with an lsd, it tries to send power to both wheels equally, helping you to gain more traction in grip driving, and letting you spin both wheels for better control in drifting. this probably isn't the greatest explaination, but someone'll probably chime in and help.

i am researching =d its called like primary source or something, when you talk to people directly as opposed to reading articles and such, and people will spoon-feed =p most people are open about their knowledge and are willing to share it as long as it isnt a dumbass question.... like my lsd one ;d

Wrong. Open and limited slip diffs can spin the same direction. They are both designed to otherwise your wheels would spin opposite directions everytime you pressed the gas pedal. The difference between the open diff and a VLSD is the amount of resisteance to spinning in opposite directions. To properly test it, you must lock the driveshaft(keep it from moving by putting it into gear or park if it's an auto transmission). This will isolate the spider gears in the center of the diff. Both an open diff and a VLSD have this. When you try to spin a wheel it will turn the other wheel in the opposite direction. An open diff will have almost no resistance. A VLSD will have a significant amount of resistance. This is the most certain way to tell short of pulling the diff and opening it up to take a look.
