So, the 240sx has been a car that I have loved for years. And now that I sold my supra i wanted to buy one to have some fun with. So far I have come across 2 scams listed on autotrader and about 3 on craigslist. Back when i bought my supra I never had this issue. has anyone else had these issues with sellers?

Its not just 240s..you run into that will all cheaper imports, or even domestics for that matter. When your buying a popular "performance" vehicle your going to come across some doosh bags that are trying to make some money at anothers expense!

My buddy bought a 91 3000GT for $3500 at the same time I got my Grand Prix GTP for the same price and he has had nothing but problems with the car-fuel pump, injectors, exhaust, stereo, heat/ac, alarm system...

Its just something you have to be smart about.

I had the same problem with a 350z. The car wasnt even real. He just took pics of someones car. It sounded fishy talking to him so I never sent money I just turned him into the Autotrader scam alert. haha. Its crappy because I am deployed and wanted to have a new nissan or two for when I return to the states. Luckily I bought my 240 from a toyota dealer.

yea its getting difficult. i mean i should have known. The one i called on listed pictures of the engine bay which had an RB26 valve cover and the car was perfect. asking only 4,900. the email i got back asked me for all my personal information to make an ebay account for me to buy the car from him.

i think the op means scams as in "i'll take your money but you get no car" type of thing.

3000GT's suck mechanically.

If the car wasn't taken care of from the git-go,your better off just to pull the engine out and start fresh b/c there will always be problems with it.Trust me i know.

You're going to find scammers all over the place. Stick to forums like NICO that you know there are maybe..i said maybe..1 in 100 people here that are scammers, and that is being pretty generous. It is a good rule of thumb, if it sounds too good to be true then it more than likely is.

your best bet is to find a local car forum and get a car off it..

less possibilty of scamming and easier to find a good deal.

I was in a similar position I was looking for a decent to good condition 240 and all I kept coming up with was scams and people trying to unload there trash. In actuality I ended up buying 2 240s before I found the one I have now.

The best advice anyone can give you is DO NOT RUSH... And drive everything first, be picky. And don't get caught up with the little things i.e. stereo, rims, perfect paint and s*** like that . Cuz its exactly what I did. Luckily I brought my dad with me and he is a no BS kinda guy and wouldn't let me take the car of the lot unless it had everything fixed.

Long story short It took almost an extra week to get all the bugs out of the car and the dealer had to eat all the costs of the repairs. Window regulator, fuses, rewiring the cigarette lighter, relays, lights and ignition, radio, alarm, spare tire, all fluids changed and double checked, alignment and balance and brakes were all fixed before pickup. My dad does not play games.

And trust me the first day I would have driven it home if he wasn't there.

Man when I got home there wasn't a single screw loose on the whole car

If the price is too good for the car, then it's probably a scam. If they want you to send them money, then it's probably a scam. If they live overseas and trying to sell it stateside, it's probably a scam. These things aren't new and very easy to spot.

buy from a forum... OR look around at all options for and for trade ins as well

i picked up my hatch from a new dealer that was a trade in.

they slashed the original price 1500 just to get it off the lot. AND it wasnt owned by an enthusiast, it had one older lady so it was in great shape

took me 5 months to find a good one.
