Guys, not to be an *** since I don't have pics of the almost finished product right now (I will in the next day or two), but I am SO frikkin close. Fiz, did you hear me? SO CLOSE! I'm actually gonna register the car tomorrow.

Right now all I have left from rebuilding my SOHC-T is putting the exhaust on, filling up the coolant, oil, and putting on the belts. If it starts, I'll be posting again very soon. If it doesn't I'll go steal my neighbors Z and still post very soon.

You're not close until it drives down the street.

Just from my experience.

Hey, you are going to use the same clutch as I do. I have got this XTD stage 3 with 6 pack disk from e-bay for 200 shipped. Installed and feelings are mixed. It's noisy, clutch pedal is as soft as stock (which I don't like) but it holds power/torque (at liest as much as 7PSI can produce on KA24DE) with no problem so far. It has 700 miles on it now, I haven't detected any slipping.

Nismo_Freak, don't poop on my thunder. What you're saying is very true, but the moment itself, it's something I can tell my grandkids about: I was hours away from driving my self-built, self-rebuilt, self-turboed KA-T down the street. Whether it blows up 30 seconds after it starts or 2 years later, this moment is MINE. Ok so it's not THAT serious. But it could be!

Mishka and MS180SX, I hope this clutch does well. Yeah the feeling of the pedal is the same as stock right now, maybe even a tiny bit lighter, but I almost like that, as long as there IS some good springy tension to it. Btw my original clutch was one of the firmest I've felt on any car, and in traffic it was killer, but I loved it anyway. I hate sissy new clutches that you cannot feel at all. But I also want something that easy to clutch kick when initiating slides. It's that Stage 3 one (no idea what that man in XTD terms, I think it's just a lot of blah blah) with 6 pucks, spung.

This is primarily a test car, the shell will be replaced by next summer and the engine is to test my mechanical abilities so that I know what I am capable of, and to learn from any mistakes. Two mistakes so far: almost forgot to tighten the crank pulley and almost forgot to take out the paper towel I had stuck into0 the lower intake manifold when putting the top part on. But alas I did NOT forget and all is well, for now.

Ok gtg register it, more updates later tonight or tomorrow.

Guys, she cranked, and then something odd is happening. The oil pressure won't go over 30psi (even at 3000 rpm) and at idle its around 5psi. I am so stumped, this is not the kind of problem I was expecting. My oil pump is brand new (has been on the car before turbo for maybe 2 weeks), from a 280Z, and has been working just fine. I don't understand what could be causing such a huge loss in oil pressure. the head is very noisy and loud as the rocker arms are not getting enough oil, and the engine runs kind of rough.

Does anyone know what this could be caused by? Other than the oil pump I can't thik of anything, and that part does nto seem like a likely suspect.Any comments or advice are welcome.

i did a quick search and found this zerothread?id=104624

someone said that you can adjust the max oil pressure by shimming the regulator in the oil pump.. idk but it said normal numbers should be mimmum 11psi at idle and 60-70 psi @ 3000rpm... i have no clue what could be wrong though..sorry

Yep, I saw that thread too, this is right now my only solution. It ticks me off that I have to do this to a brand new 280Z pump, that is already high flow (albeit not high pressure). I'll try it and see if it helps. But if anyone els has any suggestions or ideas... Maybe I should post this question in the mechanics forum.

I didn't even know the 280z oil pump was good on KA's

I read something about where the oil return from the turbo is above or below the oil level on the pan.. but idk I'll search again after lunch 4 ya...

Well if you find out its your oil pump and need a new one bro, I dunno if you know about these guys, but they sell the 280z pump for our cars and its only 75 bucks so thats not bad at all.
