I didn't take it that way. The fact is you are correct in that nearly everything is a knock off of something else. Sometimes it is simply copying an idea off of another car whether it is side vents on body kits, or even certain wiring kits. Very few I think actually do any research instead just simply going for the show. Strut braces, are they really necessary? Maybe, maybe not. But braces such as these have been around for a very long time for various cars, such as the various Mustang derivatives (Cougars for example) from the 60s. For most of the stock engines, not necessary, for larger replacement engines or for other performance machines, very necessary. If they are not really necessary then is there any real research done beyond just making sure they fit? This doesn't mean they don't do anything for the 'G's, they well may be beneficial and maybe a lot of research did go into the product. It simply means that if they are not beneficial then I believe anything goes as far as design as long as they fit and don't interfere with anything else.
In the case of tires I wonder exactly how much research goes into various designs as well. As soon as one comes out with a certain tread concept for rain, snow, or whatever, someone else comes out with what looks like almost a copy. Did the second company do any real research beyond buying a sample of the first and then change it just enough to not infringe?
I believe that most of what we now see as far as accessories really are nothing but knockoffs of those that did take the time and resources to do it right, and as for most buyers, we are more than happy to support the 'other guys'.
