So I'm talking with a wheel shop and there's a good chance I'll be picking my new cuustom drilled rims Friday and hopefully next month I'll have new 265/75/17's for em. So being a 2WD guy with very little experience I need some 4WD buddies to head down to Baja and tow me out of any trouble I get into. I've got a place for myself and a few other to stay in Puerto Salinas just a few miles south of Puero Nuevo. We can call it the 2009 NICO Baja meet!

Fueler? SixGuns? Anyone else?

Billy

Oh you suck so very super hard. Thanks for the invite, but I reside in the country's butthole (Some call it North Carolina) for the time being. Plan a trip sometime in 2010 and I'll definately join you guys, since I'll be in Riverside by then. BTW, I'm planning on going to The Fab School in Riverside to get my hands dirty in TIG welding and opening my own shop sometime in the future, so Empty, Fueler...when I work out a badass custom tubular frame/suspension for my R50, you guys will be the first to know. Boston, I'll send you pictures.

The wife's thinking about law school at Stanford, so I might be out that way before too long (Baja here I come!), but I'm just not there right now, sorry.

Dude are you serious, I check this thread 3 hours after posting and the only retards that reply are the one's that cant make it! WTF NICO? LOL Seriously though best of luck to your lady with getting into Stanford, it's way up north but a easy drive down. You'll dig the west coast I've never met anyone that didn't and if they say they didn't they were lying.

SixGuns hit me up when you're ready. I've got a welder but have never used it, but I do know what an art and amazing tool it is. I see a skid plate in your future, well my future but you're creation. BTW I've got a C&C Router

Oops my bad, must be the years of router programming and drafting since DOS days plus the 4 Hornsby's that caused the spelling error.

What's wrong with the 4x4 system? I'd like to make this a regular thing, as of right now I'm going down there 1-2 times a month.

In about a year and a half (construction/tourism has slowed due to bad press from the US) I'll have a condo and will be making frequent trips. I'm going to need more than diving, surfing and fishing to sustain me. Right now the family has a boat for a place to stay which sleeps 6 comfortably and it's a "green" boat.

All I'm waiting on is new tires which should be mounted by the end of august.

I already know how to weld, I've just never played with TIG. That, and the school walks you through suspension geometry and chassis fab. Can't go wrong there...all of the instructors have 10+ years exp. in offroad racing/fab. Was supposed to be doing it with my brother, but I think he's gonna head back to WA after he gets outta the Navy. Your baja idea sounds sick, I want in. I'll let you guys know when I can take a stab at it.

Sounds like fun! But my pathy is 2wd too, and I don't have much off roading under my belt either. Plus I'm not sure my 16 month old son would be too keen on spending that much time in the car

If you want to go somewhere in socal on a day or half day trip, I'd be up for it. Maybe out towards Calico?

There is some sick wheeling out by Calico. Head up Mule Canyon Rd...if you pick the right forks in the road, you wind up getting up onto the ridge and you can see all the mineshafts on the sides of the mountains...hundreds of them. Breathtaking view. Just don't go low on gas..I left with about 1/4 tank and almost didn't make it out. Think I needed 4wd once, but I coulda made it if I really wanted to. Take pics, you guys.

California is a big state. It's a full day's drive just to get to Tiajuana. MS Streetsand Trips says 7:12, and that's optimistic.

And good luck to your wife. Stanford law is tough to get into, tough to get through, but really good once you are out. (Full disclosure, I'm Stanford BS IE '73, MS EE '73).

Go the extra mile to learn about setup for asphalt racing (NASCAR, SCCA, ...).It will help pay the bills. REALLY good welders are few and far between.

And when you are ready to do a deep deep repair (and probably reinforcement) job in an Aluminum casting, contact me, and I'll ship you the job. The handle on my drill press table cranker broke AGAIN,and I'm really tiered of jacking the table with a bottle jack.

f: There's also some decent four-wheeling closer to Stanford. The Rubicon Trailgave its name to J**p's current off-roader.
