so i contacted Erics Performance shop...and they informed me that ARP bolts for out flywheels are actually inferior to stock OEM nissan flywheel bolts?

wtf? pretty much heres wat happen

i order flywheel bolts from them...ARP's

i recieved the package on wed...low and behold, i get SR20 Rod Bolts!? :tisk:

i called...set up a UPS pick up
UPS never showed up
called the company, and they told me straight up, ARP bolt application on imports is inferior to the ones made by nissan

i dunno if this is true or not...why would they sell something inferior with a higher price?and blatantly told me :inout:

Here's the ARP bolt for the CA18DET they are selling, it's a 10x1.0 12 point metric bolt sold in a set of (6) intended for the Ford Pinto 2000. Pack comes with 6 bolts, you need 8, so you have to buy 2 sets but its still WAAAAAY cheaper than the clowns on ebay who buy 4 of these Pinto sets and repackage them as 3 sets of CA18DET bolts. ARP never made a kit for the CA18 so you have to do research on what else is already out there (from ARP in this case) and what will cross over..... as these ebay sellers have already done.

ARP part number 151-2801

To answer your original question; I'm sure he sells both ARP and OEM flywheel bolts (at a significantly inflated price obviously)..... but probably just makes more money marking up the Nissan ones because they are on hand and there's less liability selling an OEM bolt instead of an aftermarket bolt from a Ford application. Seeing as how all his stuff is marked up OEM he probably works at a Nissan Dealership parts department and has all day to figure out which parts cross over so he can make money off people with no internet research skills. Good luck man, I would ask for a refund and just buy 2 kits off Summit and sell your extras to someone buying one kit off Summit.

i wouldnt doubt he's partly a nissan parts distributer, i know the 2000 pinto is the one were suppose to use, it just threw a curve ball that someone was actually stating that ARP are weaker on imports than domestic...

im actually gonna stick with getting the arp since he's close and im getting em tomorrow to finally maybe get my flywheel installed... no clutch yet...sigh...

So you knew the Pinto bolts were "the" bolts to get but you still decided to pay him $75+ S&H? He might be saying they are weaker because the ARP threads aren't meant to stretch and the CA18 bolts might be meant to when torqueing. ARP bolts dont get torqued as tight as regular bolts so they may back out and loosen up.....maybe why he recommends OEM?

actually to be fair i payed 60 shipped...i questioned because it was just so random. not just that on a nother thread i posted abotu a guy who used ARP on a JUN flywheel (like im going ot do) and hi's bolts i guess stripped...so it could be that he torqued them to oe specs not ARP specs...or they could have been to long and botttomed out a bit soon and he didnt know what was up...i dunno...i tend to ask question just for reassurance on things like this...

i dunno im still wondering whether i should get the oem ones since they mayb actually have a higher torque spec and least likely to back out on me...i am gonna use loctite none the less...but wouldnt you rather have them torqued harder than softer on something that is gonna be spining 5-6k + rpm at a time... :ohno:

Get the OEM ones and use a proper and un-damaged socket and that should prevent stripping the head of the bolt. But if you strip the thread, then of course you need to prepare for a re-thread. I still use the old bolts that came with the engines and they are still intact and very re-useable, so go OEM.
