So anyone wonder why Obama didn't mention this option as his C.O.S.

Think if Obama had mentioned that he wanted to put Rahm Emanuel as his chief of staff before the election was over, he would have lost some serious votes...

It is going to be interesting to see some of this unfold...

Again, I think most people, especially conservatives, would rather see Rahm as CoS than as Speaker of the House.

He *assuredly* would've been speaker someday, probably sooner than later, and I for one wouldn't want him there.

Contrarily, he'll be a good CoS.

He actually holds very moderate policy views, to the right even of Bill Clinton and certainly to the right of Obama.

He ardently supported NAFTA, he voted to make the PATRIOT act permanent, supported free-trade agreements with Singapore and Chile, introduced the "Wounded Warriors Act", and is generally regarded as a "Third Way" centrist. He has no problem with either bucking Democratic Party beliefs or with standing up to Republicans. He will also stand up to the President.

Yes, he's a scrapper and yes he's very unscrupulous, but at least the agenda that he's pushing is fairly unoffensive.

I'm glad to see that Obama picked someone to the right of himself to serve as CoS. Would you rather have had, say, Chuck Schumer?

And besides, this will keep Rahm out of the Speaker's seat, which is a job I don't think he would've been very good at anyway.

Rahm, as speaker, would have been so loud and extreme (in how he conveyed his points) that he'd do harm to the Democratic agenda. He would have been terrible.. for the Dems.

I agree with Rahm on Israel and a few other global issues.

I'm not sure I would hold Nancy Pelosi in very high esteem as speaker...can you believe that she is 2nd runner up for the presidency...<yikes>
