So the day I bought my car, I started looking for a model of it. Everywhere I went, I was told they had been discontinued. I kept bugging the local hobby shop, and the guy kept telling me that he knows a guy overseas that is a fellow model nerd, and might be able to acquire one.

I hadn't stopped in for about two months. I kind of gave up. Today, I was driving by and thought "what the heck" and stopped in. He said it came in about a month ago, and he had lost my name and number. He put it on the shelf behind the register, and it had a "Not For Sale" tag on it, with another tag stating "Save for the guy who drives this car. The guy that had bugged me for a year".

When I walked in, he was all smiles, and said he knew I would show up at some point.

Now I hate building models, since I have the patience of an angry dog. However this one, I will take my time on to get every detail perfect. I am still debating on how to cut the sunroof out, maybe... The body guy at Nissan has already said he'll take it, and the next time he paints a Z or a G with the Diamond Graphite color, he'll spray the body parts.

Yeah, I'm stoked.

Only thing I found a Wal-Junk was the "DUB-City" Infiniti with 20's. I was looking for something that wasn't exaggerated, and foolish looking. Aside of Dub city, no model manufacturer in the US has an Infiniti G35 or Skyline 350GT in production. They stopped production in 2004.

It'll be a really slow process, figuring as how I'll probably spend about 5 minutes a day, before I lose my patience.

Congrats Noah. When I first glimpsed at this thread, I was a little weirded out. Now I want to send you little gray 30 gauge wires for under the hood and some paper clips for the chassis bracing!

That is quite sick. I think I'd buy one and just leave it in the box. My roommate does the model thing. He has mostly muscle cars though. Of course a couple fiero models too.

Yeah, but remember, I am extremely impatient. I see this taking many months. I can't sit and mess with it for long, before I get pissed. Heck, the body still has to go out for paint, and I have to do the interior also.

I will stop by sometime in the next week and talk to him again. I'll have him order in at least 3, but like I said, I had waited forever for him to get this one to me.

So I go to Nissan and my buddy Don hooks me up with WV2 paint and the 2 stage primer from Nissan. Now I have painted a lot. I have only used "real" automotive paints on my helmet. So this is even better. It's not in a rattle can, but sprayed through a "Preval" sprayer. This is how painting should be done. I am really impressed with the quality of the paint. primer lays on beautifully, paint lays on like glass. I couldn't have asked for a better job.

I come back 5 minutes later to look at it, and it looks like a ****ing orange. The paint is full of wrinkles, and looks like crap. I wait for it to harden a little, and sand out the wrinkles. Looks smooth again, and ready for a fresh coat.

This coat lays on better than the first. It is so perfect that it looks like "still water". The metel flake is even, and hasn't floated toward the sides. Absolute prefection. I am pumped.

I go have a cig in celebration of my job well done. I come back after the cig, and it looks like battered ***hole. The wrinkles are twice as bad as the first. At this point, I will have to take it back down, and start back at square one. As I start to wipe off the moist paint....

I realize that the ****ty plastic that this model is made from, is lacquer reactive. The paint was perfect both times. It's the ****ty plastic that is melting, and causing the paint to look like ***.

Cleaned all the paint off, and smoothed out the body as well as I could. Looks like I'll have to do some bondo work, othewise it'll look like a "hail sale" car.
