So, a dohc tach is needed to even get the needle to move with the rb signal??

I get signal from pin 7 on ecu, it increases with more throttle...

Tach doesnt move, even with 10k resistor (one side wrapped around tach signal, other side wrapped around 12v wire)

-- So, can an SOHC tach be used, or a 100% no, DOHC only unless you swap with r32 or whatever?

Well, I tried putting power to the wire - needle will not move....

I tried yellow/red wire...

I'm running a sohc tach, but I sent it to Carl for some tweaking first.

Cool...

Weird thing is mine will not even budge, even if I have pin 7 which is a yellow/red wire hooked up to the yellow/red wire on the s13 harness....

That is some good news :-)

Ok seriously this is the second thread that I have read of yours, have you read any of the FAQs at the top of the page?

Neither the sohc, nor the dohc tach will work, they are designed for a 4 cyl, hence when it reads your 6 cyl motor, even if it did work it would be so off its not even funny...

Either send your tach to carl(i think he charges like 40-50 bucks, by far the cheapest way to go), or buy yourself an r32 cluster and swap out the tachs

Do you read any of the replies?

It is supposed to receive some type of signal - mine is getting none.. pin 7 on the ecu is giving me information.........

Why are you trying to flame me?

I have read all of the faqs, I have read everything on racebread.com, 240sxforums.com and more.. I have about 10 nissan forums that I am registered to, bookmarked and available for me on my usb pen drive (firefox portable ftw)...

So, if you dont have a good response to write, save your fingers...

I ran a tach wire all the way to the right pin on the tach. I calibrated it to be as close as possible at redline. I could care less about the area below it.

Evan

BTW, its an s14 tach so not sure if the s13 is the same.

That might be the issue... Since I had to run a wire directly from my water temp to the gauge because the other one was broken... but the tach was working beforehand, so no clue.. ill try that later with the 10k resistor, thanks :-)
