I'm assuming you haven't owned snow tires before or you wouldn't be asking this. I'll never go through another winter on "all" seasons. There is simply no comparison.

Most definitely need snow tires ... even for an all-wheel drive!

The standard tires (even the "all-season" ones - which just means they are reduced performance in both summer and winter) are simply not good enough for upstate NY snow!

I'd recommend getting a set of cheap steel wheels for those snow tires. Keep it inexpensive for what is going to be bad driving conditions.

I've ridden in snow from living in Fairbanks, AK, to Denver to Vail weekend ski trips for years, to now Wenatchee, WA. I had a front wheel drive Saab w/snows on the front and a diesel rabbit w/front drive and no snows and I did just fine. I now have ContiExtremeContacts on my M35x and went thru an especially snowy season w/out any problem @ all. They are all seasons, but the tread looks like snow tires and performs great in all seasons.

I'd save some $$$ for fuel, and get those damn sloppy and uncontrollable RSA's off and replace them w/the Conti's and enjoy..!
