Snowboard Rack for factory rails?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi All,

I'm getting ready for snowboard season, and am looking for a rack setup. I have the factory rails, but not the crossbars. I'm considering getting the Yakima FatCat 6 for the boards. I'm torn between either the Infiniti factory crossbars, or perhaps a Yakima setup, with Yakima Lowrider Tower mounts & Yakima crossbars. I may buy a mountain bike in spring, so future mounting options are a consideration. Price wise, both options for crossbars are similar, around $200.

I think it might be nice to be able to go crossbar-free when I want to, not an option for Infiniti crossbars. Also, Yakima crossbars could make use of a fairing, for better aerodynamics & noise reduction.

-Does anyone have the FatCat 6 (or the Fatcat), and what are you mounting them on?-Does the FatCat 6 fit the factory crossbars (I'm thinking they should)?-What are your thoughts on a whole Yakima setup, mounted on the factory rails?-What looks better to you? I can't quite decide if I like the look of the Infiniti crossbars or not ! (and Yakima's shortest crossbars are 48", which means they'll overshoot the rails by 5" each side, maybe not so hot looking either, but can be removed, and may be more versatile for carrying other cargo)

So, I emailed Yakima (see below) and they have yet to test out their gear on an EX, so needless to say, they were of no help. Thule also has no info as of yet on the EX. WTF???!!! It's (often) an AWD vehicle, crossover, and the snow will start falling soon, and I still have no rack!!!! Someone please help!

======================================Customer (Nghi Do) 10/25/2008 05:35 PMWill the Yakima FatCat 6 fit on Inifiniti EX35 Factory crossbars? Thanks!

Response (Courtney Gould) 10/27/2008 10:48 AMHello Nghi,

Thank you for contacting Yakima Customer Support.

Our Yakima Fit Team is currently assessing a rack fit for your vehicle. Generally, this means that we will have a fit for your vehicle sometime in the near future, but not always. Sometimes we find that there is no way to fit your vehicle; in this case, we will upgrade this note to a "No Fit" status. Otherwise, we will list what towers, clips, and bars will work for you. Please be patient, there are a lot of vehicles out there on the road today for our fit team to check out. I have logged that you would like a rack for this vehicle. That will help show that there is a demand for it.

Please check http://www.yakima.com "Fit My Car" periodically to see if the fit information for your vehicle is available. Once we have a fit, the ‘Choose My Rack’ section will immediately reflect that information.

Thank you,Yakima Support

Alrighty...stilll no response. Sort of what I feared. None of ya have yet tried the Yakima FatCat 6, nor 4. So, how about a related question: What ski/snow rack are you using? With factory crossbars, or aftermarket?

BTW, I have bought the FatCat 6, and will try to see if I can mount them to an EX with factory crossbars at my local dealer, before buying the factory crossbars.
