Nissan probaly thought that if they put on a bland black plastic grill, then car nuts would either paint it the same color as the car (that lame excuse called 'the European Look') or, the after market would come up with a grill that people were willing to pay huge dollars for.
If Nissan put in a nice chrome grill to begin with, there are lots of guys out there that would probably rip it out anyway and stick in Godknowswhat. So I guess it's up to us individual buyers to solve all that car-designer versis' company-accountant, intrigue.
I was looking at the Japanese Tiida on some other web site months ago and saw an absolutely beautiful, full chrome grill as an aftermarket option. Try as I might I was never able to get back to where I saw it. That's what you get for Web Browsing at 3 in the morning!
But one look at that Tiida chrome grill and you know, 'that black plastic has to go'!
I had the same feelings about my new 2003 Honda Odyssey when we got it, way too much black plastic! I got some chrome roll trim and fixed that. I can't see anyone's sensibilities being outraged by adding plastic 'chrome' to an already plastic grill. I did the Versa the same way. So, it cost me about $15.00 for the fix..lots more cutting and fitting on the Versa grill, but I think it looks very ...stock, if you didn't know better. WARNING, that double sided tape instalation is like a mouse trap, you had better be happy with where it snaps on, as you won't get a second chance!
If you get right down on your knees and stare at the job you will see thatit's not a factory grill, but from where I see it, if totally puts the finishing touch to the front end of the Versa. With added chrome door handles, some nice pinstiping, Vent Visors (a MUST for the Versa) and I will be almost done on the outside.
