While for many of you, this is no concern, but for us in the north where we get snow, snow tires are a major concern.

Anyways, I was wondering if anybody has seen any reviews on Snow Tires as that season is fast approaching (some places already have their fare share of snow).

Tirerack.com has an extensive user rating/review system of all the tires it carries, including snow tires.

From my own personal experience, go for Blizzak's for studless tires, or Falken Eurowinters for studded tires.

I live in Quebec and im shopping for Winter Tires this week...

I looked at those sites for advices :http://www.talontire.com/tireinfo.htmlh ... p?DocID=97

I live in Montreal, which is a little more warm, slushy or icy than other city. And the snow is usually removed within 2-3 days from the major streets... And I drive about 90km per day on highway 10 and 35 to go to work, which tends to be icy and might get a some snow while it falls...

I was looking for those tires in 185/65R15 :- TOYO G02 plus (found some for 560$ tx, pose, bal. incl. in a little shop and my dealer asked me 25$ more per tire!)- Bridgestone Revo 1 or SW50

A tire sales man recommanded another one, saying the Versa is compact and high and those tires have a soft flank less suitable for it than the :- Pirelli Winter Carving (found some for 463$ tx, pose, bal. incl.)

but I read that they are better with stud and Im not planning on buying studded tires...

I will also buy some black rims and a set of hubcaps...

Any opinion or advice for me?

Do snow tires make that much of a difference? I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I don't have my Versa yet, but since we already have snow I was considering getting a set of snow tires for the Versa, but my dad said they didn't make that much of a difference.

Depends on how you drive. If you are naturally careful and start and stop very slowly, they won't make tons of difference.

If you are not quite so careful, or have to drive on roads with people that believe that their SUV is invincible in the snow (even if it is only 2WD!), then they make a world of difference.

Edit: or if you have to drive on hills.

They make a huge difference. Some people can get by without them depending on how they drive, and where they drive.

I for one drive a lot in snow... snow drifts, ice, black ice... I need traction.

The other way to look at it is this.

4 Snow Tires and Rims still costs less then the repairs for an accident you got into for not having them.

I think they make a great difference, more traction and they not tend to harden on lower temperature like all-seasons tire do.

Mount them on their owns set of rim and changing them will be a breeze when the time comes, and your tire will last longer since they only get used half a year.

just my 2 cents.

I live in Vancouver. We don't get a lot of snow around here but when we do I see the idiots on the road who think snow tires don't make a difference. Everything is fine til we come to a hill (we have a few of those around here). Then I'm stuck behind them cuz they have no traction to climb. Tires ALWAYS make a difference. Good tires, whether summer or winter, will greatly affect the handling of your vehicle. I discovered that when I bought my van a while back. The van came with some cheap marshalls on it. After I swapped them out for some good michelins the van suddenly felt like a sports car. I was amazed at the difference in handling. As for snows, as said earlier, they are cheap insurance. $400 for a set of snows all around and you'll probably get 8 or 9 years out of them. And make no mistake. Put 4 on. You wouldn't have different tires on the front and back in summer, why would you in winter?
