Snow switch - exactly what does it do?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Does anyone know exactly what the snow switch does? Owner's manual doesn't say much at all. Based on driving on one snowy day, it seems to prevent or strongly discourage wheel spinning, but it seems like Inifiniti would put out a definitive and complete explanation. 2007 M35 X.
