If you live in a cold weather climate, i would suggest picking up a pair of steel rims and mounting a pair of real snow tires on them(or 4 tires, if it snows alot, but 2 for the rear will make a world of difference).
I used to work at Merchants and you can pick up a good pair for cheap. Heck you dont really even to balance them cuz your not going to be driving fast with them anyway. When it snows, just swap out your normal tires for snow tires and your car will do a heck of alot better. Just make sure you dont try to drive with snow tires on clean pavement, snow tires wear soo quick on dry pavement..
Ultimately, your car will never be a snow tank. Its a rear wheel drive, light sports car, the worst type of car to drive in the snow. I plow snow in the winter, and i ride around with chains and straps as side-work and pull people out of ditch's, snow drifts, medians ect. I have watched soo many hilarious slow motion accidents, and honestly these guys are right, its mostly about the driver. You have to know your limits, you have to know how your car handles in a slide and how to pull out of one. You have to know how to break in the snow.
Find a WFO parking lot and practice putting your car into a slide and pulling out of it. Practice breaking, as well as turning. The more you drive in the snow/ice the more comfortable you will be with it.
