hi all, new to the forum/car. tried to search, but it would not let me . anyway, got a g35x 2007. i'm guessing most of us know about the abrupt throttle response. i got used to it but the wife gets whiplash every time she drives it, AND my son will be getting his license in 2 weeks. today i tried the SNOW mode and it is MUCH smoother on starts, and you don't feel like you have to " watch it" on starts. a couple of questions for those of you who know (probably a LOT of you). when you push the SNOW mode, does it start in 2nd gear( auto trans) ? does it start in 1st but reduce power- if so is it reduced power until i turn it off? does it "lock" a front-rear diff ?- if so, does it allow "slippage" in turns and on the road ( no snow/rain/gravel...). i feel these are very noob questions, i am new to the CAR, but am not new myself. any solid info would be greatly appriceiated, thanks in advance... btw, great forum !

I am not sure about the snow mode. I don't have that option. I know if you use the VDC, it should reduce the amount of slippage, but can have the whiplash effect. Tell your wife not to hammer the gas pedal so hard.

As far as a new driver at 16 being given the keys to a g35... I personally wouldn't do it. I was an extremely responsible teenage driver, but every kid has their limits. However, you know your son, and he must be an awesome kid if you're going to hand off the keys to him.

Searching, should work since you are now a registered member.

I'm not sure, but on my coupe I have 'Power mode' and 'Snow Mode' for the auto trans. In snow mode it appears to take off in either 2nd or 3rd. It is highly unresponsive (compared to how the car normally drives). I have used it on a few occasions as I was told it would improve economy but it felt like i was driving a tank.

I highly doubt it would be damaging for prolonged usage. Its there for a reason. I just leave mine in power mode. higher revs and seems to shift more predictably.

As for your son, I'd really recommend you getting him to start out in a much less powerful car.

Welcome to Nico

Ok here is the deal if you are not happy with the throttle there is a fix for it. You can get the ECU flash at the dealer. They can put the 2008 ecu in and it will be a different world. It will be smoother.

However if you decide to stay with it as it is. You can use the Snow mode. No harm for the car. Doesn't let you accelerate that much and second gear start also it looks the AWD system to 50/50. If you do lots of city driving you may want to look into the ecu flash instead of the snow mode. 50/50 will drop you fuel economy.

I hope it helps.

Don't forget to post some pics.

thanks for the replies, if snow mode locks the diff at 50/50, then it WOULD be hamful to the drive train ( like a 4x4 in "center diff lock mode") that is driven on hard-non slippery surfaces). also, isn't a 2008 engine a 3.7 ? - the ecu would be programed differently to the 3.5 ? the re-flash idea sounds like the way to go, have you or anyone done this ? thanks again... p.s. i did mention the throttle response to the dealer, but they did'nt know of a "patch" or upgradeto the ecu.

Welcome to NICO!!

The 07/08 Sedan is still a 3.5 only the Coupe is a G37

Tell your dealer/service manager about the ECU option... it can be done.

There is a TSB for it. I don't know the TSB number. The 08 sedan is the same engine 35. Only the coupe changed to 37. 09 sedan well we shall see?

Anyways it is not the same as the 4x4. It is electromagnetic wet clutch. It splits the drivetrain to 50/50.

Suby got his done and he is happy with it.

off subject, but since the 09 Z is getting the 3.7, I wouldnt be surprised if the sedans kept the 3.5, considering how well it performs, to continue the G35.

Europe gets the 08 sedan with 37 engine. I believe it is going to be here too. It is just marketing. Once they launch the G overthere in europe. It will be 37 everywhere else.

Welcome to Nico. Engaging the snow button gives you 50/50 distribution until 12mph (19kms/h). It then reverts back to 75/25.

As for the TSB concerning the throttle tip in, I know a few folks who now wish they didn't have the TSB done. In fact, now they are trying to reverse the ecu reflash.

You won't harm the car with snow mode all the time.

No harm will be done. Remember, its only engages until 12 mph.
