So i'm in the process of swapping heads from my old KA onto my new one today. When it comes time to take my camshafts out, I take my exhaust cam out first. To my surprise, the shaft comes out completely and the sprocket is still just sitting there. It took a few seconds for the fact that I had a snapped camshaft to set in...only word that can describe it is disbelief.

This is not all that rare. I think that if you check the races on the cam pillow blocks you will find them badly gauled. usually caused by a lack of lubication Check your oil pressure. The engine idle pressure is always relatively low but it should increase as the rpm's rise. and be sure to change the oil every 3k

My buddy had an 93 civic, and he was too lazy to change the oil. The oil light would come on during turns and everything. I changed it for him a couple times, but I didn't always have the time with college and all. One day the car died when he was at an intersection. He took it to a mechanic and found out that his camshaft had in fact snapped in two. Obviously due to lack of lubrication.
