You know those gray snap on wire connectors that are used all over our 240's engine wire harness?

I have a few damaged wires in my harness and a few of them can be easily fixed by just splicing, crimping, and sealing with shrink wrap. However there are some wires that are damaged really close to the connector, so there is not enough length of wire to splice to. Also there isn't enough room to solder either.

One option that I have used in the past is to just go to a junkyard and cut off the connector that I need.

I would really like to reuse the connector that I have, but I cannot figure out how to remove the wire terminal from the connector. By inspection I believe these wires are soldered to the terminal and then the terminal and wire combo is inserted into the snap on connector. I figure brute force pulling of the wire will probably rip it apart.

Thanks

Most all automotive electrical connectors come apart the same way. On the inside of the plug there will be a tab that locks all the pins in. The tab is normally a different color than the plug and you need to get it out. Depending on the size of the plug it can be a real chore to do it. Use a small scribe or large sewing needle to get it out. Once the locking tab is out then you can use the needle to move the actual little tab(thats under the locking tab) that locks the wire pin in and pull the wire out at the same time.

Ya I know it sounds confussing. I could show you how to do it in no time but to try and explain it is a PITA. If you don't get it I can post up some pictures.

Thanks for the input. I've looked through the connector numerous times in the past and didn't see anything. I'll look through the connector more carefully and see if can find the tab that holds the pins in.

the tabs are really tiny sometimes. use a needle and you'll be able to de-pin it
