i have some spots on my windshield on the left side edge at about eye level. theres 5 of them.....all different sizes, and they all looks like really really greasy finger prints, and ive tried washing the inside and outside of the windshield and they wont come off so i assume that theyre inside the glass. if i showed them to my dealership, would they replace the winshield since obviously i didnt make the marks if theyre not coming off when i clean them?

i got a couple of OK pics of the marks i have on my winshield.....these 2 are of the biggest "smudge." there are about 4 or 5 total ranging in the size of this one (about the size of a decent sized swiss army knife to the smallest one which is the size of a pea). theyre all in the same area on the winshield as well.

Wish i still had my black light, because some night shots using a black light would really make these smudges stand out.......i have an LED flashlight that might work just as well though.....ill try for some better shots tonight.

probably because people actually respond quick in this forum. chill out legend

anyway, try goo gone or goof off. some people will tell you to try invisible glass, but in my opinion that stuff is crap. if it's actually etched into the window ask the dealership what it is.

Try rubbing compound, it gets rid of heavy water spot deposits so it might work. :/

Worst case if you can't remove the smudges, you could always have it replaced. If you have glass coverage on your car, there should be no cost for you.

Try putting water on a dryer sheet (you know, those laundry things....) and then rubbing the windshield - this worked for me when I had a bunch of tree sap on my car, it might work for you.

Are you using rain X?? Mine will do this after rain X has been on for a few weeks and bug butts splatter on it. I will usually clean the whole windshield about every 3-4 months with "0000" steel wool ( it will not hurt the glass) and re-apply Rain X. This gets red of all the old Rain X, water spots etc and leaves a fresh surface to start over. I have done this for many years and never had a windshield be damaged. Be sure to use ONLY "0000" and nothing coarser.

the car has had these smudges since i drove the car off the lot. i really think theyre imperfections in the glass....i might just go out and buy a cheapy black light to get a good pic of them

well windsields are made of safety glass, which is one layer of glass then a layer of plastic then a layer of glass again, so it may possibly be an imperfection in the middle, because from your pictures it looks like a finger print, so that shouldnt be hard to remove if it were on the outside of the glass

Baking soda and some polish. Took a hairline scratch out of my glass.Might work on the smudges.
