So, most of you probably haven't been on a flight that allows smoking, since it was banned for short flights in 1988, and ALL flights in 2000.

However, if you've flown lately, you've seen ashtrays, either in the armrests or the lavatory. Most people think, "Oh, those are left over from back when people COULD smoke on a plane."

Nope. Most commercial airliners in service today are newer than 13 years old, so that's not it.

Here's why (and it's pretty interesting): http://www.standalone-sysadmin.com/blog ... tructures/

Interesting article. But I guess one should never underestimate the stupidity of the American passenger. I was travelling full time for business about the time they banned smoking on planes. as a non-smoker I was thankful. It was awful. Your clothes and hair literally reeked of smoke by the end of your flight, and if you were stuck sitting beside a chain smoker on a full flight, yuk. Baby boomers will remember many flights had "smoking areas" back then, but it was as effective as a non-peeing section of a pool.

Very interesting article. It really doesn't surprise me that people would still smoke while flying even though they have all the warning ect. Its better to be safe than sorry rather than end in a fate like that flight the article links to..

Ugh... They have nicotine gum for a reason. I know the people that do smoke and travel on a plane across continents for 12+ hours start scratching their necks halfway through it. So they can allow a lighter on a plane but no shampoo bottles or purses with a gun design stitched on it?

Yeah I always wondered why they don't allow chewing tobacco or dip or whatever you call it either.I'd much rather have someone doing that than being all irritable and noisy. If you can't stomach the sight of someone spitting into a cup, you need thicker skin.

I don't think lighters are allowed on a plane, but then again, I haven't tried.

Smokeless tobacco isn't prohibited.

The FAA understands what I've been trying to explain to people for 27 years:

People will be ***holes. You can't stop them. Instead, you should simply try to reduce the negative impact of the assness on yourself and others.

Or you could just hit people when they act like asses. But society tends to frown on that. Primarily because it's composed of asses. :frown:

they still allow lighters on a plane, just one though.(they confiscate torch lighters too.)
i smoke and it does suck to be on a plane and cant get my smoke on,but seriously, its not like im going to die if i dont smoke(lol) so i just think evil thought about the tsa the entire flight and find the closest door after we land,go outside and light up(whether or not no smoking signs are posted.)
thats how i roll.

Smoke 40,000 feet of what?

Or 40,000 actual feet? From, like, people?

Wow, people are retards. I would never attempt to smoke in an airplane restroom. Addictions are strong, but the fear of prison time for smoking means I could wait a few hours. Jeez!

They could at least add a smoking section on the wing or something...

dang there's a plethora of cigar smokers in here! In for recommendations. I have always been a Rocky Patel/Gurkha kind of guy, but I don't spend a whole lot on them and I don't smoke as much since I started Jiujitsu and hockey again.

romeo y julietas arent horrbile, atleast hes not smoking white owls

Whenever I stop off at the cigar shop I usually buy a bunch of macanudos and ashtons, they are in-exspensive and flavorful "$7-15 depending on the cigar". If your looking for good cigars but do want to break the bank check out JRcigar.com. They pretty much make exact copies of higher end cigars that taste pretty damn good

As a non smoker I actually kinda like the smell of a black and mild. Wine flavors sell like crazy. I used to smoke Dutch Masters but not he tobacco inside them...

Believe me...I would if I could.

Interesting article, too, BTW.

I smoke, but I don't get all fidgety on my 12 hour flight from Narita to O'Hare. Hell, I don't even get all that worked up waiting to get through immigration then customs. I usually only get the itch to smoke when I am bored. As long as I have personal in-flight entertainment or books/magazines, I'm genki.

Although, I do like having a smoke now and then when I am driving, especially long distance. If I can light up every hour or two while in the car instead of having to stop, get out, find the damned smoking area (yes, even in Japan) that saves me 10-15 minutes and I can get to my destination that much sooner.

But...that being said, I am also aware of other people that don't smoke. I will NEVER consciously exhale directly at people, smokers or not. It's rude and disgusting to make someone else get a faceful of your smoke. I'll always try to move out of the way so even the smoke coming off my lit cigarette will not being going in your direction. I get so many people here in Japan that just don't even care and will blow it right in my face and it pisses me off.

Taken out of context this could be very badly misconstrued :lolling:
