I switched to synthetic oil (mobil 1 10w-30 synthetic) and now everytime i get on the highway or be at high rpms and let off the gas it smokes like CRAZY from the exhaust...should i switch back to regular oil or should i just wait for my engine to get use to it?

Your engine won't get used to it. If you have a higher-mileage engine, then the synthetic does not condition the seals well. It will leak right through the gaskets that hold conventional oil well.

Not really a problem, except that you will leak a bit of oil over time, get your engine bay really dirty, and keep smelling the distinct smell of syn oil burning as it runs down from your valve cover gasket to your ehaust manifold.

I would only put synthetic oil into a car that has between 20k and 50k miles, and I would switch it out after the car hit maybe 120k.

the engine only has 40K miles on it...maybe i should go with thicker synthetic like 20w-50?

run a thicker oil.Mobil 1 is one of the thinnest 30 weights out there.I feel even a mid range 30 weight is a way too thin for many performance engines this hold especiually for turbo engines in summer.Go with M1 15w-50 or other premuim syn in a 50 weight. For winter go to M1 0w-40.

Grouyp IV syns ( the only group that ever had seal swleeling probs) has good sweller additives now.Group V syns are polyol ester based ( usually) and that base oil it self serves as a seal swller better than any dino oil.His problem was using an unusually thin oil in summer in a turbo.

Ok. Yeah, Mobil One is what I was using on an engine with 120k. At the time, everyone knew about the seal problems except me, so I ended up with a well oiled engine bay in only about 2000 miles later.
