Hi all,
New to the forum so I don't really know formatting, so forgive me. I got an 87 z31 in the summer so its new to me it was garage kept for 14 or 15 years unused and untouched. Didn't start as the pump was dead. Now I hooked up a battery back before I replaced the clutch in it, and all of the interior lights worked, dash, etc. I hooked up a battery two nights ago after finally getting to finishing the clutch job, and replacing the fuel pump, and some smoking occurred near the fusible link box.
I think it might've been the Bat fusible link, but i'm unsure. The car will crank, but not start, and i have no power coming to the cab or so it seems. My headlights work, whenever I flick on the highs, the little symbol illuminates on the dash, the ignition is getting power because I can crank the engine at least. I was up until 6:30 this morning, checked the fusible link and it looks okay, but that never means anything. A second opinion or some help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to Nico!
So the car cranks but won't start. Can you hear the fuel pump come on? If so first step is check the ecu for codes, next would be to test for spark. Let us know what you find.

Thanks,
Yes the car cranks, No the fuel pump does not come on. I just replaced it because it was bad. I'll look up how to check the ecu for codes and have that done whenever I get it towed to the new place.

So car cranks, fuel pump isn't cycling, smoke form around the battery. There is a bank of fusible links in a little box next to the battery, you may have burnt one out, pop the cover and check them out. They should look like little loops of wire, if one looks like it got hot or burnt, it's dead.
Here is how to check the ecu for codes.

Are you sure you didn't hook the battery up backwards? You'll blow the big black fusible link and it WILL smoke. Check that

To everyone who answered, and helped, I apologize so much for how long it's been. I fixed it, yes I blew the bat fusible link. Replaced it, and now have more problems to fix before she lives again
