My friend's 1995 Maxima has been smoking recently, its not a fire smoke, almost a coolant mist. He had his radiator replaced a few days ago, but it seems to be still leaking. It is still smoking after the radiator replacement, but doesn't seem to be overheating?

I hope you can help me. That's pretty much all the info I know....I'm a 240sx guy.

Anyone? The coolant seems to be leaking still, and almost smells like burning plastic or chemicals.

Bump.

Where is the smoke coming from? Radiator? For somewhere in the engine department? If there is spillage of coolant on the radiator that may take a day of driving to burn off. After that something is leaking.

The smoking appears to be coming from the front of the engine near the fan. I'm thinking its a bad belt, since it smells like burning plastic/rubber. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Has he checked all the coolant hoses? Made sure they're sealing at joints?

has he checked the water pump to see if it is leaking slowly onto the belt, and getting burned off?

did he hook up the transmission cooler properly?

does it sound like the belt is slipping?

check the hose connections, coolant may be spraying onto the exhaust manifold or y-pipe.

put the car up on blocks so you can look underneath it w/o any problems...warm up the engine, and then check for any fluid leaks.

We have plenty of Maxima here, it takes time for people to respond, stay persistent!!

Coolant smells sweet kind of like maple syrup.

I would spray the engine compartment with water (cold engine) to get any coolant out of there.

Then warm up the car and see where the "Smoke" is coming from. It's possible that one of the hoses wasn't attached properly and is getting melted.
