I rebuilt my engine about a week ago , and was having a small amout of smoke coming from the tail pipe. I was wondering if that was normal for a newly rebuilt engine. I pulled the number 1 plug and it was lightly cover by oil. Also it keeps slightly over heating.

i dun believe a leakin injector is goin to cause smokin, sounds like your valve stem seals weren't replaced?, does it do it when ya rev?, if so then yeah its most likely the valve seals.

or it could also be that if you did the headgasket, it didn't seat right and you may be leakin coolant and that may be the smoke.

is the smoke white and smells sweet?, or is it blueish?, if its white then it should be coolant, if its blueish then its oil burning.

do a compression test.

'rebuilt' is too vague: you need to tell us what exactly you rebuilt... was it a basic rebuild, like just new rings, a hone, new bearings, or did you go all out? Replacement, OE, or performance parts?

Generally no, a completely rebuilt engine should not smoke. Even though the rings may not be seated yet, the smoke should be very minimal, like first, 2nd start-up.

I think I know what is going on. I had an injector that was leaking, and I believe that I washed out the rings. I am going to try and see if I can get them to reseat.

Does anyone know if it is possible to reuse a cometic headgasket that is blown.

This is what I mean by rebuilt: cp pistons, crower rods, cometic headgasket, stock main bearings, arp main and head bolts, 3 angle valve job, new valve stem seals. and the basic machine work.

Make sure you smear some wheel bearing grease around the injector O-rings before you re-install. Otherwise, they kink up, don't seat right and leak again.

I've been suggested to use vaseline also, because it easily disolves into the gas an doesn't post any problems.
