Hey guys!
I have read this forum before but have never posted. I need some help...
I have a 93 J30t and about a year ago the turn signal click would randomly click for a little while but much faster. Over time that has gotten worse to the point that it clicks more often then it doesnt. When I use my signal, it slows back down to the normal speed only to speed up when i turn it off. About 6 months ago, I noticed smoke coming from between the steering column and the steering wheel. It stopped quickly and didnt smoke again until a couple months later. It again stopped quickly and then didnt happen for a month or two and now it does it very often to the point that I am not driving it anymore in fear of it catching fire. I have googled it all and am not finding much that will answer my question. Any of you have this problem? Can you help? Thanks so much!

Rapid turn signal indicates turn signal bulb failure(or a bulb on the way out). In areas where road salt is used in the winter, the salt corrodes the wiring that connects the front turn signals and creates what your describing. The solution is to replace the wire feeding the bulb socket. Its pretty easy to do as long as the car is hoisted. The wiring is a common part used with virtually all 90's Infiniti/Nissan products. I replaced mine a number of years back. I think the dealer charged me $5 for the wiring. As for steering wheel smoke, it may have something to do with the airbag. I would get a professional to look at it. You don't want to mess around with an airbag.

Could also be fray/shorting wires in the steering column going to the turn signal stick.
As Driver said you want to sort this out quickly.

Funny ??
Where there's smoke there's fire.
A Car fire isn't usually funny.

you have to replace the whole turn signal assembly on the column. mine did that last year and there was a short on one of the connections. i might have one in my shed.

just undo the 6 screws that hold the cover together and pop off the ring around the ignition switch with a small flathead. i believe its just 2 bolts that hold it on and undo the connection and take it off. there are copper leads and one will most likely have a black spot where its been burning.
