I was driving on the highway today when smoke started streaming out from under my shift boot. It isnt a lot, and it only seems to happen when the car is warmed up and has been running for a short time. Any idea what this could be??

Its most likely a leaking rear seal on the transmission, oil escapes and gets on the driveshaft. The drivshaft is spinning fast, so it flings oil all over the exhaust. The hot exhaust(afte the car is warmed up) then heats up the oil and makes it smoke.check that out and see if that is happening.

How does it smell like. I had that problem once, a plastic bag found itself onto my cat and melted itself to it, causing a nasty smell and smoke.

That seems to be a minor oil leak, but it should be comming from the front of your engine not right from below the shifter, if oil was leaking just below that, the smoke should travel to the rear of the car, if the smoke starts way before the shifter it will catch the smoke right through the shifter boot, in any case, you should have a sealed insulated shifter boot, double check that so all that smoke wont go into the car.

Thenks for all the suggestions, guys. I'm gonna get the car on a lift over the weekend to see if I can find out what it is. By the way, it is a faint white color, can't see it unless the sun is hitting it just right.
