Hi,
English is not my language, so excuse my grammar...
I just got new Nissan Murano (2.5dCi version) :) and have driven it about 150km in last few days. Today, after about slow 3km drive I have made a short stop and have noticed white smoke slowly coming out of the openings by the front tyre on driver's side (there are some openings in the plastic between the tyre and the headlight, so to speak...I hope you understand what I mean  ) and there was quite strong burning smell :wtf2: . I opened the hood and saw nothing unusual, there was no smoke coming out of the engine. The wheel was also cool and the smoke was not coming out of the wheel or brake disc anyhow.
Is this considered normal? Is this some protection burning off? I have not noticed this for the first 150km...so why now? Or should I visit the mechanics?
Thanks for some feedback...

I understand your message, your English is good. Smoke from that part of the car is not normal. I have no idea what would cause that. Is there any fluid or a wet spot in that area after the car has been sitting for a few hours? The only thing that I can think of might be a loose connection on a hose somewhere and that fluid is dripping onto the hot transmission or possibly the hot brakes.

Since it's new, you should take it right back to the dealer when it is smoking.

Hi,
thank you fo rthe answer...I have been driving the car last weekend (with frequent stopping and checking and smelling) but have seen no more of this smoke or smell. There is NO wet spot below the car when parked. So :gotme

If I ever smell just a litle bit of something funny, I will go to the mechanics rigt away (I have no long distance travel in plan anyhow for the near future...).

Thanks again for the help :) . If something new develops , I will post an update (I hope I do not have to :chuckle: ).

Safe driving!

Hi again...just a short update...
I have been smelling "the smell" for about 1500km-2000km (I have not seen any smoke again). Than no more smell. I guess some rust protection or some sealants must have been burning off (or burning in?).
Whatever - so far, I love this car!

Safe driving!

It's normal for a new car to burn off smoke for a good 200 miles or 2 weeks.
It's just the green lub stuff burning off on the piston and piston rings.

The white smoke, could had been some over spilled fluids. When I got my 2011, It could have smelled some antifreeze smell plus some other oil smell up to around 1.5k km. No no smell. I would not worry about it but if you would smell it again, then bring it to the service.

you have the 2.5 Diesel Turbo, how does it response compared to gas and what is your consumption liters per 100km. tia

Hi,

I suspected spilled fluids, but there were no wet spots under the car or inside the machine…and it was not "liquid evaporation" smell, it was "something burning" smell (I work in pharmaceutical/chemistry industry…to some extent you develop some feel for this, although I admit it could be deceiving).
If it starts to show (smell) again, I'll go to service right away, no worries.

Yes, I got 2,5DT engine with 6 step automatic transmission…well, it is my first Murano and I did not have chance to test the gas version very much, but my feel is, that 2,5DT is pretty good match for highway drives, comfortable family trips (just my cup of tea),…but not so much for dynamic/racing type of driving (which I almost don't do). What I am maybe missing is some sort of "economic/sport" switch of the transmission. It is true that the electronics shifts adapt a little bit to your driving (gears are shifted differently if you slowly press the accelerator pedal or if you slam it), but I did not manage to get it into really dynamic driving. It is also true it has manual shifting possibility, but I do not play with that too much. Do not get me wrong – 99,2% of the time I am perfectly happy with the motor / transmission response on the road, but sometimes….you know how it goes ;-).

I get average consumption 9-10L per 100km. It drops to about 8,5L/100km on highway, and rises to about 12L/100km if I do whole week of downtown/city jams.
