ok heres the deal just got the z back on the road after like a year and a half. original engine seized a newer engine was put in. same stock n/a engine was put in. its a 2+2. i am wondering why i have heavy smoke coming up from the back of the engine after driving. if car is sitting still idling not driving it at all for the day the engine does not smoke but when i drive it and stop it almost smells like gear oil burning. i check the power steering resevoir and it seems to be low so i am going to add some power steering fluid to see if it is the fluid that is leaking. what fluids would smell like gear oil when burnt. i'm honestly afraid to drive it because i feel that it might catch fire please help. i put it up on a lift and cant see any fluids hitting the exhaust and looking down behind the engine i still dont see any fluids spraying anywhere please help i am at a lost

how is your coolant? any engine oil loss? trans fluid? auto or 5 speed(just want to know) if its gear oil i wouldnt worry too much about fire is it is very very hard to ignite. but i would worry about what damage might occur from what ever your car is losing and burning up.

no oil loss i am a newbie to z's so i do not know where to check the gear oil its 5 spd i know the smell of gear oil and that is what it smells like, just where could it be coming from after stopping one day i look under the car and i see like gear oil on the exhaust bunrning off right under the driver door, but the heavy smoke is from up front so i am at a loss could it be the rear seal on the transmission
