You've answered your own dilemma. It's time to open up the wallet again.c-rad wrote:So I think my turbo is already dying. Once the motor runs for about a minute, smoke starts coming out the exhaust. It's white with the very slightest tint of blue to it. I am not loosing coolant, so it pretty much narrows it down. It goes away while driving though. Last car I had, when the turbo went bad it smoked all the time. That is the only thing I don't understand. Also, I can kind of hear the turbo blades scraping the housing a little bit at part throttle, so I know that can't be good! Anyway, this sound like a textbook imminent turbo failure situation?
LOL, well, this one MUST last 65 more days. I have to wait til I get my pell grant refund from my school so I can go ahead and order a GT28R. This turbo was pretty much just for the break-in of the motor anyway. Kinda sucks though as I wanted to see what kind of numbers I could put down with the T25boost_boy wrote:You've answered your own dilemma. It's time to open up the wallet again.

Yeah, I have a "hookup" on turbo rebuilds, but I planned on getting a GT28R at the end of the summer anyway. I just hoped the T25 would have lasted. I really don't want to take the turbo off twice!fitch9014 wrote:i had an s13 t25 rebuilt for about 200 bucks, of course i knew a guy, who knew a guy, who had this brother in law...nevermind.
if you're like me, (between grants) and don't have a lot of money, that might not be a bad choice, but then again, the gt25's are cheaper than ever
oh yeah, i've got that twelve hour experience blacked out of my memory, too...freaking coolant return lines, oh yeah and i dropped one of the manifold nuts down the exhaust...all right!! if i ever put a turbo on again, i'm pulling the motorc-rad wrote:

Well, you don't have to have shaft play for it to leak. The shaft play is due to a worn out thrust bearing and the leak has to do with a rubber seal. If the turbo you put on has been sitting a while with no oil in it (as in my case), the seal can dry out and crack. Thats why if you notice, all new turbos are greasy as hell on the inside and wrapped in plastic bags.nnkfws333 wrote:I actually have the same problem. The turbo has 0 shaftplay and I don't understand the problem either. It works fine at startup just after driving and I stop and idle for 1 minute it starts to smoke. Does anyone think it could be blowby? I was gonna hook up a catch can hoping it might help it.
I noticed, when my idle drops low as well it starts smoking more. Friggen weird. You would think under load at higher rpms the higher oil pressure would force the oil out the seal, but apparently, the pressure maybe keeps the seal in place??? I don't know, but either way it sucks because it makes the car look so ghetto when I am at stoplights and stuff.yourmomsrps13 wrote:c-rad mine was doing the same thing but only at low idle(below 800rpm) for 3 days it did it, i fixed my idle and havent seen any smoke since, im sure its my turbo seals but its been good to me and allowing me to save some money for a t28
BTW i just did a dyno run today with the SR t25(@7psi) turbo,AFC2,EVO8 FMIC, full 3" exhaust, no cat, hks intake and got 183hp - 165tq

Cool... maybe I will give that a shot. I can't see why I would be blowing oil though... But in any event... we are having a 240SX meet here in Daytona tomorrow evening (7pm). Kevin (nismo1182) is coming out I believe. So far we have a pretty good group. Check out the thread on fldrift if you're interested.nnkfws333 wrote:Hey C-rad, I just hooked up a catch can today and so far so good. No more smoking. I ran it for half the day with no smoke. Lets hope it worked.
