i have a 91 240sx fastback, the engine was painted by the previous owner and the guy did a bad job at. I dont know if this could be a contributing factor to my current dilema. I generally dont drive the car often, i have had for about 2 months and its only been out like 5 times or so. I start it everyday but i tend to drive my eclipse more because its better on gas, anyway i started the car the other day and large amounts of white smoke came pouring out of the exhaust. it stopped after running for about 10 minutes or so but this is also the first time i started the car in the rain. I dont know if that would play any part but im trying to figure that out.

Is the smoke really thick that comes out? If not and since it goes away i wouldn't really worry about it to much. I know a lot of cars that smoke when they start up, after they get a little warm they're fine. I don't think paint would cause it to smoke.

it did go away after about 10 minutes of running. I was wondering if maybe the pressure drop could cause this, or maybe a change in temperature. Like i said this was the only time in almost 3 months that it had happened, and it was the only time i had started it in the rain or a temperature below 75 degrees.the smoke was on the thick side when it started then thinned out quick.could this be caused by the octane level in the gas, My girlfriend drove it a while ago and filled it with 87 and its still the same tank.( thats sad the same tank for 2 months)
