My '94 altima was stolen last november and it was recovered yeterday. it was sitting in an apartment complex just 3 blocks from my home. the apartment people called it in as an abandoned vehicle after it was sitting in their parking lot for 10 months unmoved. it was found about the same condition it was lost. even with full tank gas. and nothing was gone except for my text books.the night it was gone i had filled it up and set the trip meter to zero. When the car was recovered it had less than 2 miles on the trip meter. the thief had driven the car just from my home to the apartments where he abandoned it. it was sitting there since then.only damage was the battery and the interior was dirty due to the sunroof left flip open and almost a year's weather got into it(rain and dust.)

i have to smog it to update the tags. but last year when i smogged it it passed barely. the car has 141K miles. there was a timing issue and when the mechanic tried to adjust it it wouldn't become any better than 17 deg(it should be 20 deg btdc). but i was able to smog it because it was within the 3deg tolerance. but i doubt it will pass smog this time. it idles very rough and near 1000rpm the car shakes a lot. but higher rpm runs fine. what are the steps i should take before taking it to smog agiain so i have the best chance to pass. is it a distributer issue. if so should i stick to the oem distributer or will the $200 kragen or autozone distributers(brand 'cardone') work.

first and foremost, get 2 bottles of ISO-HEET (not HEET), and pour 'em in.you r ethanol has sucked up water from sitting (bad gas essentially).you should notice it running better after 50 or so miles.i would change the oil with some cheapo 5-30 or 10-30 (now) since it prolly turned acidic from sitting. other fluids would be good to change, too.after the 50 miles, buy a can of bg44k, and run the piss out of it (but only if you are on fresh oil).then, when tank empty, change the oil AGAIN, with quality stuff this time.

get engine and cats nice and hot just before going on the smog rollers.

44K is the dump-in injector/ fuel rail cleaner made by BG. I have used it and it works good. I like BG products at lot.
