What would you like to know?

AZ has probably the second-toughest emissions laws in the nation.

You won't notice much difference, we're a LITTLE more lenient. Let me know when and where you'll be relocating to!

p.s. Sun Devils suck - UofA all the way! Go CATS!!!

haven't heard of Az being the 2nd toughest state in the nation...if you go to some counties they don't do **** for testing...as long as you pass the sniffer. and some are too stupid to know a sr from ka unless you have a HUGE turbo sitting on the top of the engine.

I want to know if its easier to own a SR powered 240. Its a ****** in Cali, and I was wondering if AZ is a little easier...

My situation is a little strange, I will be attending ASU at Tempe, BUT working in a lab at the ASU West Campus in Phoenix. I heard, if you live in the "city" you have to smog your car, otherwise its not that bad. I was thinking of living outside of both Phoenix and Tempe since I will be commuting back and forth between the two. Any suggestions on a good place to call home?

A devil just might put a fork in your cat. :devil

You won't find a place outside the city limits that makes sense - This city covers more area than LA, the commute would kill you.

I live 2 miles from ASUWest. Why aren't you taking classes there? That's where I go (master's program).

Also, your info is a tiny bit off: If you work or go to school in the city, you also have to pass emissions, regardless of your place of residence.

Sounds like living downtown would make the most sense for you with that kind of commute - I can give you the lowdown on all the freeways. Keep in mind that we're the 5th largest metro area in the US (surpassed Dallas/Ft. Worth), but our freeway infrastructure hasn't kept pace with growth.

Getting the 240 tested shouldn't be too tough, I'd log on to AZ240sx.org, tell them I sent you, and ask around there.

OK, well I appreciate your advice, and info on the city. Your in grad school eh? Right on...Let me break down my situation a little more...

I attend University of California, Riverside. I am currently in a Ph.D. program. My advisor/mentor got a job offer from ASUWest to chair a department and start a grad program there (they have zero grad students in this department). Since my advisor is the coolest lady I have met in academia, she has negotiated with ASU that if they want her, they have to take her grad students. BUT in order to receive m Ph.D. I have to attend ASU at Tempe.

My advisor (and her lab) will be in Phoenix though, and this does create a little inconvience, BUT it is worth it (ASU has a MUCH better grad school in my area). So there ya have it....Simply no classes to take at ASUWest, and if there were, they would not be very good, given its a brand new program. I would probably stay at UCR.

Given this, would it make more sense to live in Tempe or Phoenix? Which way is the traffic the heaviest? How is owning a sportscar in Arizona? Will the sun beat the crap out of my paint?

I am glad I can get a SR pass emissions, because I will probably have mine dropped in at the end of May, I have made an appointment with Phase2...
