I am a big fan of the sleeper look, so I pretty much want to go SMIC. I want to use either a JZA80 SMIC or a ARC one (can be found on eBay if lucky). My question is since 99% of CAs don't come with the side mount, can SR SMIC pipes be used? Or can I use an aftermarket SR set of pipes for a SMIC? (Like HTs Hot pipe and a 5Ziegen cold pipe I found) Thanks. If all goes well, I will have a CA in the mail in the next month:)

Yes the SR SMIC will work. But why don't you get a FMIC and paint it black? And if thats not enough, but some of the wire mesh stuff in front of it and paint that black too. Unless someone is looking hard, they won't have a clue.

SMIC are a waste of time and money, if you don't plan on running lotsa boost or making it into a power house then go ahead. SMIC aren't that effective.

thats not entirely true... why couldn't a sidemount with good ducting work just as well as a front mount? ARC makes some excellent products, and there are plenty of supras running around with high hp and boost on aftermarket sidemounts:)

1) Not True2) I'm not building a drag car. I don't need to run 45psi. 12 is the most I want to run as this is my daily driver3) I didn't ask for opnions. I asked about SMIC parts and what will work

Theres nothing wrong with a side mount, Look at DSMs. Anyway a stock mk4 supra should be all you will ever need since its good for over 350. I would try putting a puller fan on it and duct it. I also have a stock bumper duct from my front clip if you intersted. One more thing is that the piping is what holds back your hp.

Im running a 1G DSM sidemount as an upgrade over the SR one I ran. Im pushing 15 psi thru it so far and seem to work way better over the SR.

An MK4 Supra has a big thick core of a sidemount, im sure that will work 1000x better.

Yeah, like I said, I was thinking about the JZA80 (MKIV Supra) IC. Seems like that may be the way I will go.

I just upgraded the wife's car to an HKS fmic, I have the ARC side mount she was using available, $200.00 shipped.

You guys sure SR Sidemounts will work on CAs without modifications? My friend has a ARC sidemount sitting in his kitchen that he got for me recently, and he sent me pics showing that the inlet/outlets are in slightly different locations than the SR. He pulled the ARC piece from a CA18DET powered 180SX.

I want to keep the SMIC but I can probably get one designed for a SR20 for less than what it will cost me to have the inlet/outlet modified...

And who says sidemounts are useless? People in Japan run 1bar on ARC sidemounts without any issues... the ARC units are designed very well and can handle the boost.

And 1bar is all I want, so...

SR sidemounts are useless.

But yea, the CA and SR sidemounts have diffrent inlets and outlets.

I used a SR sidemount with my CA cold pipe and a SR hotpipe.

Now I use a 1G DSM sidemount with my CA coldpipe and a custom hotpipe.

some dsms have gone pretty fast on their stock sidemounts with the necks opened up. Its plentiful, cheap and will surely suit your needs. Not much more time/ money to set up a fmic, and there simply isn't enough frontal area for a smic to compare. Put a temperature probe on your cold pipe and read before/ after... see for yourself.

what would u paint an intercooler with? Looks like some thin special stuff that wouldn't hinder heat tranfer. Definitely doesn't look like "regular" paint to me.

You want to anodize your IC... I don't think I'd hit it with a spray can.

:P

Anywho, anyone interested in buying this ARC SMIC off me? It's designed for a CA18DET and thus useless for me.. I figure I might as well test the waters and see how much I can get for it. :P
