Ok i've noticed this twice now..

Driving down the street and go from like 50 - 0 @ a stop light [plus some mild braking before then].. that nice overheated brake odor comes up

Get back home & sniff each of my 4 calipers [it's my new fetish. everyone is doing it I swear.]

Anyways, they all "smelled" ok except for the front driver side, could totally smell it.. there was a nice thick dark purple ring around the outside of the rotor and when I put my keyless entry remote on it, it melted the tip of it.

Before you say "wtf did you use your remote for", I used my finger once before and this time i remebered its hot. Hah!

Sticky caliper? How do you unstick it

*cough* z32 calipers look even better *end cough*

Check the slider pins to make sure they are lubed.

I'd recommend you only use some hi-temp grease, but all-purpose grease will work as a temporary fix if that's all you have.

since your buying grease . lithium grease is hi temp and well i use it for almost everything on the car. it's great. Are you running cheap-o pads? Did you do the brake job your self and forget the brake pad gunk. the stuff that makes the pads stick to the caliper and not the rotor? Or is the piston just sticking?

i use that synthetic brake lube <mo' $ in little packages, but worth it> or dielectric silicone grease on the sliding pins...

ya, the sticking piston would be the second thing to look for...replace or rebuild it is the fix, i guess

plus, my cheapo raybestos pads would smell too after some 'spirited braking'

I had the same problem on my 97. I had new rotors/pads installed and I drove it around and noticed that the front 2 smelled after braking. After maybe a week I noticed the front drivers side grinding, but not often.

Anyways, long story short, I drove it for 5k miles because I've been busy and haven't had time to take it up till today. The guy tells me that my front rotors are extremely heat warped & the pads worn thin. He says I need new calipers.

Anyways, B4 I spend more money I wanted to find out if there's anything else it could be besides the calipers...

Anyone have any ideas?

Oh and does anyone know where I can buy calipers online for cheap?

yeah u might be in for some new pads. but you can check them to see if there warn. but at that milage i would just change the pads and resurface the roators. pads aren't that expensive just think if u have better stoping power the next time some a** slams on his brakes in front of you you'll be able to stop a little bit shorter and save your car some face.

Are there any real differences between caliper brands? I'm also looking into getting stainless steel brake lines...any suggestions on what brand to go with and where I can get them? thanks

pull out the slider pins. I had to use a wrench on mine, the grease was all gummy and caliper couldn't move

i think fuzion is done w/ his stuff... ya raybestos has some good stopping powaa for oem replacement...

240kid, i agree w/ u on the gummy sliders; up in the northeast I've seen owners' manuals of all sorts saying that they should be pulled out, cleaned, relubed yearly d/t the road salt thingie...

I've noticed it 1st-hand w/ my front brake pad replacement recently as well; didn't resurface rotors cause the dial gauge my machinist-dad read that I had no warpage! whoo hoo! plus got sick after the job d/t was sub zero @ the time <envy those peeps who have huge garages>

entity, no difference in oem replacement/aftermarket calipers...most carry lifetime warranty <well, around here it does> unless you're goin w/ the high performance bling bling types <fixed multi-pistoned kinds> *oops 300zx brake calipers are also lifetime warranty thru autozone :ylsuper

off-topic.... 'fuzion' is a copyrited name??? mun2 cable channel... ha that latina-americana show is just full of fluff...
