I was told from a friend that it could be my catalic convt. but whenever my car is at idle after running, ex.) at a signal light... My car literally farts. Its super gross, the fumes smell like a bad fart...and it sucks whenever I have friends in the car, b/c we're always blaming who laid it and when I say it's the car they never believe me...

I did replace my cat like 2 years ago b/c it couldn't pass smog, I do remember the guy telling me that it was a crappy cat, but it'll help me pass smog w/o putting a dent in my wallet... So I just wanna make sure if anyone else had this problem with their car and if it was the cat?

HAHA, that's hilarious.

But anyway, my friend's old car had the same problem. Pretty sure it was the cat too. It really can't be much else if you think about it. If anything else is leaky, it will just have that "injected scent gas" smell.

Maybe the cat you replaced was a generic cheapy cat? or maybe your car is not running efficiently and made the cat die quickly?

Well, can't you just roll up your windows? Or drive really fast? .

I have a stock cat (non smelly) that you can drive down to OC to try out. If it works, you owe me $20, if not, you can just give it back, hehe.

Also got a 2.5" hi-flow cat.

sounds good to me...Where in the OC? I go to school at CSUF so that would possibly be close to where your at?

PS: BTW when I roll up the windows the smell goes through the vents from the inside... there's just no escaping it...

Either somewhere around Fountain Valley or Irvine (depends on day & time). just hit me up on aim: agentsonic02 or on email above.

Hmmmm... rolling up windows causes the smell to go inside, that's really weird. I know for some cars there's a cabin air filter that usually goes bad and lets air come in, but I don't think our 240sx's (at least the s13) have a cabin air filter... if it does, hasn't been changed in 16 years, hahaha.

update! may not be your cat at all. check this thread out:

Here's a lil clipping:

It could be several things. Here is the list of the most smelly things in a car.

1. Ratiator is leacking coolant and burns off to make a nasty smell.

2. The clutch could be buring, you should know how it smells when you smell it.

3. transmission fluid could be leaking under the car and making a nasty rotten egg smell. I hate when I change this fluid cuz your hands smell like chicken *** for a few days. :\

4. 240sx's are know to create mildew on the bottom of the car in your cockpit. It will leak into the interior of your car where people put there feet in the back of your car. Touch the carpet the next time it rains and Im sure you will feel some nasty water, and smell it too.

There are a few more of course but those are the main ones.[/quote]

your car is running rich. it cna be anything fuel ralated, which can in turn, kill a cat. your problem can be deeper than just a cat

Can you elaborate more on this deeper problem?

i mean, your puel pressure regulator can be ****ed, stuck injectorspretty much anything that would allow for more fuel to be dumped into the cylinders, making it run rich. your problem may be something other than the converter
