for some reason, every time i run it hard, i get this horribly strong smell of fuel inside the car. Im running at 12 lbs right now, and if it makes a difference i have no catalytic converter. This smell really only comes after running WOT for a while but it really bothers me. I have found no fuel leaks so far. but i'm worried none the less...performance has been great, dynoed out at 210hp and 226.5ft/lb torque with crappy fuel.

I've noticed a gas smell on occasion too.

I wonder. Do you have your emissions equiptment? Like the char-chole (no clue how to speel) canister?

IIRC there is a hardline from the gastank to the engine bay that is suppose to feed into the char. canister.. which is suppose to filter out gas fumes.

thats what i did, capped the line at the intake manifold, and used the big vacuum line to run new speed sensor wires to the diff.you can ditch the canister too.it's a solid 10lbs weight savings.edit: BTW i have no gas smell.

Check the gas tank seal first. The charcol canister only stores vapors when the car is turned off, once the car is turned on and off idle it vents into the intake. Its a valuable device, and venting the fuel tank vapors to air may make more fuel smell then before. shake it... it should sound like its got sand in it, if not it may be saturated with fuel, and in that case I would just replace it rather then cap it off.

90% of sr swaps dont have the canister... and are venting to the air.

well 90% of the sr swaps that you have seen probably could get better fuel mileage if they didnt vent thier fuel vent line to open air. if your fuel is sloshing around enough it may leak out that hose. think about it a fuel air vent in a closed container....driving around WOT then slamming on the breaks. fuel has got to go somewhere why not out the vent line?

The evap canister is useless emissions equipment, when someone is tryinging to build a performance car. I dont think ur gas milage would be greatly affected, if you capped the evap system or let it vent into the air. And if the evap canister isnt even use while the car is running whats the point of keeping it.

Plug the line. Check your fuel tank seals.

Want good gas mileage? dont do an SR swap.. and dont drive WOT.

probably not. everyone I know with an SR has the same smell. Atmostpheric BOVs,charcoal canisters, etc. are all possible causes. Check you plugs to be sure, but doubt you are running rich.

i actually am running rich...but i just realized i have a bit of an issue w/ my gas gauge...it drops down past E sometimes for no reason...sometimes under acceleration, sometimes not...for no reason, just drops all the way down, like half an inch past the last marker...then pops back up when it feels like it

my car has quirks. I'm 99% sure it needs a new gauge.

I also have a wonderful feature that none of you have. My rear wiper (SE) turns on ever time i take a sharp right turn! Actualy, it only seems to happen on wet days.

lmao! well the gas gauge thing freaked me out cuz i thought i sprung a leak the first time it did it really badly...(gas gauge just dropped off al the way to E at a very uniform rate)'

today i will go trouble shooting, and check all the seals on the fuel lines to make sure i have no tiny leaks...then do my brakes w/ good fluid...

Yeah I've got fuel leaks in several places. The o-ring for the fuel pump (which is stinking up the cabin when the tank's full and I turn hard), and the small 4" or so fuel hose that runs above the intake manifold on the SOHC. To remedy this, I've gone out and got a 10ft roll of high pressure gates fuel hoses at 5/16" for the pressurized side, and a 25ft roll for the non-pressureized side with a new o-ring (which is still on it's way) with new fuel hose clamps. I'm leaving nothing to chance since gas prices are so expensive in CA...*cries* as valuable as gold *continues to cry*

I've had the problem you are talking about where the needle drops past E when you run it hard. Mine has done it a few times. All the times it has happened, my tank was at a tad below 1/8th of a tank. I think my walbro sucks it all up so fast and it doesnt have a chance to come back through the return line fast enough and drops to E. Other then that, I usually keep my tank above 1/4 so it never happens.
