smelling gas driver side after gas tank replacement

help - 2009 cube with about 47,000 miles. the gas tank was replaced on dec 1, 2025.(plastic connector had crack and the whole tank had to be replaced) residual gas smells at rear of car for about a week or two then the smell seems to have migrated to the drivers side in front by the wheel. there is no obvious leakage of any type near the front wheel or drivers side. any feedback appreciated. and thanks for your time patricia

There is a vapor purge line running to the front in addition to the fuel supply line. If they replaced or removed any hoses along with the tank then it's possible they messed something up. However, the source may be very hard to locate. The human nose can detect gasoline in vanishingly small amounts, as little as 1 part in 40 million. So it doesn't take any visible leak to create a smell.

thanks for the reply. i will try and locate the purge line and investigate further. one more question...am i liable to go up in flames if the source of the odor isn't located? thanks every so much for responding during the holidays!!!! patricia

Absolutely not. It takes roughly 14000 parts per million minimum for gasoline to catch fire. That means you pretty much have to have a visible leak to have sufficient concentration. That's about 560000 times the concentration your nose can detect.
