aside of my 95 max i have an 05 bonneville. i was topping off coolant on both cars and decided to pull the oil dipstick out on the bonnie. i smelt something like gasoline/exhaust smell even though the oil was clear as new. same on my max and any other car i've had before so thought...maybe it's normal or maybe i'm stupid and don't realise i have some bad gaskets?

anyone?...anyone?

Hmmm...

Not really sure what to say, there. It's possible you have a leaky fuel line.

My Maxima gets gas smell in the cold (like all VGs) due to fuel lines and fittings contracting at different rates. Not saying that's your problem specifically, but a small leak in a line can lead to a lot of gasoline smell, especially under the hood where it's relatively contained.

Exhaust manifold is a possibility but I doubt that's it. Wasn't common with the VQ. You could have an exhaust leak elsewhere...like the flex pipe. If you're smelling exhaust AND gas, though, you may have bigger problems (unless the two are coming from different sources) like leaky injectors.

Got any pics of the Bonneville? My grandparents had a black 1990 SSE years ago. It was a nice car.

thanks guys. the thing is...my oil smells like gas, on every car i've had so i always hoped it was normal - that's after driving though so i'll check it again when the car had a few hours of relief.

don't have any pics because it's totaly stock - for the next 5 years of payments. it's gold and looks decent but since it's not paid for my old lady won't let me put rims on it...women

should've seen her face when i threw out the idea of putting a supercharger on it...
