I have a 95' infinity j30 that i drive every day and lately I have noticed that the smell of gas is only noticeable when i start it up. when the car is warm the smell goes away after about 15 min. I'm pretty good around cars i'm bout to check it out this weeknd. I was just wondering if any one has ran into this problem before?

Welcome to NICO!!!

Remove the engine cover and look for a tell tale brown streak. If you see one. Don't drive the car. It indicates an injector is leaking. Your basically an engine fire waiting to happen.

Get the car towed somewhere, where it can be repaired.

In the morning before you start the car, pop the hood and see if you can smell the gas, then start the engine and keep looking and smelling, it is more common that the gas leak occur from a loose fuel line clamps then a o-ring.Also, the J is going run rich before it is fully warm up, so, if the gas smell is comming from the tail pipe, that is normal.

Hi. I had the same exact issue about 6 months ago. Took it to a shop... they wanted to take apart the entire engine!! Told me not to drive it because it could catch fire and with small children in the car, things could get ugly quick. Told me that it would be several hundred dollars to fix and may end up being around...hummmm... a thousand or so.... I made an apt to fix it, because of the thought of a car fire is a bad thing. OH.. and by the way... it was after a 10 minute look under the hood with the engine OFF.

In a panic I went home, call my brother who stopped by within 2 minutes with the engine RUNNING and in PARK, he located a very small pin hole leak in one of the upper fuel lines (it was mid-center back part of the engine) -- very close to the air vents on the dash. I went to the local Auto Zone store, purchased 1 foot of fuel hose for $1.50. Went home, took off the two screws on the O-Rings on each of the fuel links. Replaced the old line with the new hose and the smell was gone!! Needless to say... I canx my apt, fixed the issue and saved TONS of money (and our lives, too) !! The replacement job took less than 15 minutes!!!

It's pretty much on top of the Intake manifold, between the 4th & 6th(cyl), if that makes sense. It runs from the Fuel pressure regulator the Vacuum gallery. A diagram can be found on page EF&EC-9 of the service manual in your trunk. GL.

I had that awhile back when it was cooler here .Start up.the motor with the hood up and look at the fuel lines at the front top of the motor. If you see a leak you can tighten the hose clamps a bit and stop the leak , but thats fixing the symptom , not the problem. The fuel lines in these old darlings are getting old and shrink abit when they are cold and swell back into shape when they warm up.They need to be replaced and its on my long list of To-Do's

On a cold day , white smog (Water vapor) will come out of the tailpipe.J' are known for that .. Rich when she's chilled.

And if the fuel lines are old it will leak.

I knew I should have followed the white rabbit instead of Yogi
