Smell in my 10 year old J30....

While I cant smell it, my friends complain of a smell that "resembles a broccili fart" in the back seat and trunk of my car....It is very frustrating to me because I cant smell it at all! What is a good way to get rid of this?

Edit: Ive cleaned this car to death, it is spotless and smells piney fresh to my nose....but everyone else that smells it complains, its embarassing. Ive cleaned the lether seats, carpets etc.... perhaps its one of those cleaners that is causing the smell and my nose is just used to it. Should I burn some insense in the car?

Strangely enough, I think the description of the smell sounds familiar. My guess is that you've got water standing somewhere. Look under all of the trunk panels, spare tire well, etc. Also look under the carpet. My guess is that you'll find standing water somewhere. Stop the leak and you've come a long way toward getting rid of that smell!

My parents have a Ford van that has a leak (I think they all do) that caused this same sort of smell. They bought something at a local "air quality" shop that they sprayed in and killed the smell... This is one of those places that sells $500 filter systems for home furnaces and special air cleaning devices... if you have something like that in town you may check for something to spray in the car.

My spare tire well is a mess...filled with dirt, which is moist and there was a sponge type thing, all wet...that smelled like cat piss....tomrow I will unscrew all the carpet sidings of the trunk and get out any water in there....that HAS to be it! Thanks for the great idea. Its hard to tell though, because I cant smell it.....it has to be in the trunk because the two front seats rarley experience the smell.

I've never even seen your car, but if you have a damp, dirty, moldy wheel well, I guarantee you it's at least a contributor! LOLGotta figure out how the water's getting in there. Sunroof drains? Taillights? Weather stripping?

The sunroof drains are plugged into the side of the car... If they came undone and dump water into the trunk.....

I got me some "One drop standard house hold deoterizer"....it says one drop will kill all odors, but the container has enough for about 500 drops, so I put about 100 in my trunk and a few in the back seat, seems to have done a great job...ill see what my mom says.

thats funny, I started to notice the same smell today! I wonder if the hurricane had anything to do with it. Didnt see any floods in my back seats.

That is a good point.....

I cleaned out my evaporator from all the gradoo, and sprayed some simple green in there, and it always smelled fresh...

Maintain with BG frigi-freeze......
