Well the SR is finally running, except I cant drive it due to the battery drainage problem in my other thread. Another one of my concerns is a strong fuel smell while idling- even outdoors too! As far as I can tell there aren't any leaksanywhere. There a tiny bit of condensation in the muffler tip, but not even really a puddle. It's about 30 degrees here now, so that doesn't surprise me. Any ideas as to why my car might be running rich or is it just smelling?

look over your fuel lines with the car cold and away from the breeze. That should help you look for any gas leaks. condensation at the muffler tip sounds normal since water is produced in any combustion reaction. any ideas as to why you're running rich, check your plugs. if they're indicating you're running rich, check your o2 sensor as that'll be the part that tells the ecu if it's running rich or lean. could also be that it's just a bit smelly, but dunno the two things above are what I'd give a shot at first.

My car runs rich at idle. Plugs read normal though. I still get 20-28mpg depending on my right foot.

If the smell is coming from the rear of the car you might have pinched the rubber packing that seals the access cover to the fuel pump. (If you replaced the fuel pump)

another place to check is on the fuel return line on top of the rail. There's a small rubber line clamped by some screw clamps. my clamps came loose and pressure forced gas out there. Use your sniffer and find where the smell is strongest.
